sounds really nice and solid.

Tis what I wanted more than anything...
I'm not made of money and didn't fancy rebuilding it every 4000 miles!
and I have other plans up my sleve for this engine, hence the reason behind keeping it 1275 :proud:

I may get an over powered hair dryer onto it yet! ;D

Sounds like a superb engine. To be honest I'm getting bored of all these massive spec engines when most of them aren't even suitable for what they are used for. I think your engine is going to be perfect for what you want it for, and I'm glad to see you've used your head when thinking of the spec and not got carried away!!

As for the diaphragm, orange should be fine. Did well on my 1425!

Thanks Jammy! :proud:

I had the chance of going for a high spec... but for a big spec, just means more to remember and more to write down...

Like I said, I've looked at what my main driving is for my Mini, and well most of the time I am sat arund 2500-4000 rpm, this is when a Morspeed PH2 cam is really doing its stuff, so seemed the ideal cam, and the twin carbs, are to help with a bit more reaspose at the lights.

Thanks for the advice on the clutch, will order one now ;D

That engine sounds well thought out. I need to decide what cam I will be using for Rab as it will be a driving car but he will be on the track now and again.
When does your engine arrive?

Got to wait 10 or so weeks for it... but that puts it around xmas time, so I'd suspect I'll be able to fit it around early January.

For cam choice, look at what RPM your mainly sitting at, tis what I did, and well, simply look for a cam, that power band is either in the middle or at least in a quarter of the power band, this meaning, when you put your foot down, it won't cough and splutter, and then get get going.

I wanted a new gen cam, not the useawell, Kent/Piper cams, there are LOADS out there!

Morspeed, MED, and some of the Legend Racers have made their own cams!
But for £60 the MSPD cams seem a good price, whereas some of the Kent cams are £70-£80!

I've spent many months working out what I want, talking to engine builders/tuners, and well this is the engine I've ended up getting!

I was going from anything from a power tuned 1175 (998 based) right up to a 1430! but a nice 1275, re-honed will give me all I need, at the best possable realiabity.

Yeah, I see what you are saying, only problem I have is that my right foot is a bit too heavy to keep off the floor :proud: Will probably get a fast road but not too lumpy. Cheers

good choice of engine i was going to say orange but dont go for the ap race clutch plate its a bit fierce, you have to kind of launch it to pull away lol its almost a paddle clutch

what kind of revs does the cam work from and to?

In that case...

I'd say have a look at;

MSPD Ph2 cam
Kent 276/286
Piper 270
SW5

These all give "town" driving power, but not much after 7-8rpm!

SW10 - bit of a limp 286 - kinda on emmissions!

Is a good, half n half cam, easy to pass emisssion, but yet will go wild on the track...

Well Simon says it pulls nice from about 1800rpm right up to 7000rpm!

This is on standard rockers, and a standard head.

I might be able to tweak that a little, as I don't have such a big problem with Emmissons, and I've got a decent cylinder head....

But thats the quote, that Simon has got on his website. ;D

Well I can what I want done during the winter, then hopefully May/June... ready for the summer :errr: and SMD, MITP! and maybe the Malvern show!

I havn't got that much to do, but it getting round to doing it! Its getting dark when I come home now :( so the speed of it being done isn't happening so fast now, but I hope to have the welding, etc done in 2 weeks, ready to remove the front subframe, and start fettleing around with a few mods :)

Anyways, here are my nicely rebuilt carbs... wish I could of cleaned the carb bodies up, so they would look like new, but I need a acid dip, or simular for that, and I don't know anyone with one handy :(

But here we go:

These are Twin HIF4's quite hard to get hold of, but are basically twin HIF38's but a little better :dozing:

Well, Well, Well....!
I am back on form!

The front is now off!!
Most of it was filler, and new panels welded onto new!
But its off :errr: and yep, I found yet another hole!!

Only one thou :dozing: I have a good tap around and along the door step, all seems solid! so not a bad job after all!!

Just a bit more welding to do, then its in the garage, for winter storeage!
I may even rip the engine out this weekend!
