Theres something I hate about not being able to work on the Mini during the week...

and I think it because I start looking at engines...
I'm tempted by a Vtec... yes its been done god knows how manytimes...

But it just seems something that can be done, and you get 160-180 (depending if its a B1 or a B2)
I'm not sure if it because I am just looking at power ratings or reliablity, or just the sound of a Vtec mini....

Need some help guys... what do you think? Vtec, or A series?

Just an FYI, standard, B1 is 150bhp and B2 is 160bhp.

Oh, and I know a guy called Eddie who can do you a Vtec install! :gimme:

Is it!
Oh I was reading somewhere that a standard B1 was 160, and a B2 was 180.... oh well, thanks for the update in info!

I'll let Eddie do it no probs... just need to wait 4-5years ;) maybe longer, maybe never!!

What do you think then jammy? Shall I go with a Aseries, or go for a Vtec?
The reason I choosen a Vtec over a Kseries, is I can get bits I want off the shelf so to speak...
Although the car is a "weekend, show motor" the engine I REALLLLLLY want is over £3k! So I "downtuned" and got an engine (spec was said a few posts back) although it'll be an awesome "everyday" motor, I want a little more than that, but all keep the idea of not having AA rescue....

i think it keeps in more of a mini with a A series engine

but if you want big power with out spending big money then V tec makes more sence

There are some of my doors being done on A-serious....
I'll try and get one...

Well i did consider it... but another thing I've been thinking about for "the project" rather than getting something else to weld, save towards an injection sustem, and a 7 port head...
Only problem I have then, is for me being a cheapskate, I'd like an bottom end that could cope with the power now, and run it in on a normal head....

hummm twin 40's... now thats an idea, but I'm not sure they'll give me the power where I want it (town bashing ;))
Maybe I could look into using Bike Carbs? But I think an injection sustem will be first, just to get it going, and to know I've built it right.

But who else does a 7 port head?
I can only find Minisport  :gimme:|

Thankfully I'm not actully changing my mind as much as I did :gimme:
I am just thinking of an upgrade later, for when I'm bored of "a certain power".

The Vtec idea is a faded dream of the Estate... whereas the 7 port is something I've always wanted to do at some point....

keep a series in dorris, vtec in the estate. Best o' both worlds then! I'd just whack a simple engine in, to get you on the road. If you go tarting about with different engine specs, it'll take you forever to get back on the road.

It'll be ok if I was still doing the estate, but Jean 'n I have split, so all the plans for it have gone...

I might tweak my standard 1275, stick a good cam into it, clean it up, and run it till it dies, then use the engine for a 7 porter...
