Hi all, I'm hoping for some advice. I recently put a new 075 battery in my 86 Mayfair 998 and later realised (when I lost all forms of power whilst driving!! :ohno: ) that I had not connected the negative battery terminal correctly and it disconnected >_<. After re-connecting the battery properly and starting him up, the red warning light on the dash, which I believe indicates that the battery is not charging, now stays illuminated all of the time. I'm wondering that if the battery coming undone whilst the car was on and in motion has done some damage or if the warning light is just throwing a wobbler??? Any suggestions would be gratefully received, cheers.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but when the bettery terminal came off the alternator spiked up in the 200v + range and its taken out the diode pack in the alternator, the red ignition light is indeed on because its not charging, its either a replacement Alternator or replace the diode pack if you have a soldering iron and a manual

That might suggest the alternator is no longer charging the battery. Do you have a volt meter? If so what does it register when the car is running?

Kernowcooper will have the answer. Edit: he has the answer
