the rubber / plastic anti static straps have carbon or fine wire built in to them to make them conductive

they should be fitted to the metal body - not plastic bumpers

sorry, I am not convinced, i am sure they were just a gimmick. But should anyone want to test it out myth buster style:

The fake brembo caliper covers on ebay are another one, who thinks it anyone will believe that there are 6 pot brembos on their chav mobile?! Those stick on vents are another terrible one.

I'm not sure if anyone on here watches Mighty Car Mods on youtube, but they built a Honda Civic build where they basically tried to put as much of this stuff on one car as they could. They even went to the lengths of TIG welding the fake rear brembo cover on, over the rear DRUM brake!

How dare you mock the 70's legend that was Anti static straps!!!
Oh those were the days, no Capri. Granada or Vauxhall Viva would be seen without a couple of them scraping along on the Tarmac behind them. I seem to recall that by reducing static they were supposed to help prevent travel sickness, or at least that's why my Dad used to have them on the back of his MkIII Cortina anyway. Of course that was back in the good ole days, when you didn't need any kind of actual scientific evidence to back up wild medical claims like that.

 reduce travel sickness, that's a new one on me. Does that work on the grounds that you would be too embarassed to be seen in a car with them so you couldn't get car sick?

I'd never actually thought to question it before, but yes, now I've come to think about it, I don't really see how static would ever induce nausea in the first place. If it did, surely everyone would have spent the entire 70's constantly hurling everywhere, what with all the polyester carpets and plastic soled shoes!

I suppose it could cause it, but on the grounds that car manufacturers don't fit them as standard and remembering cars in the 70s and the horrendous trips with my head hanging out the window I think it's fair to say that they don't work. A bit like those pressure point arm band things that only work if you THINK they work, give me scopolamine any day.

Let's not forget fluffy dice, and I'm talking about when they were genuinely a must have accessory, and not in some kind if ironic /retro way like they are today.

My local motorfactors still has alot of this stuff... the fluro wiper covers, trapped hands ( i have a pair!!), the klunk clip signs, seatbelt extenders, the stick on sunstrip and neon stickers of paint splats, even an original radio (8 track i think) still in its box lol
