so the beam now fits very well

cant see it that well, but there's only 2mm of extra space left to the side of the beam. It's the same on the other side

I also got the delivery from Velo of seat mounts and one seat slide. I'm confused as how the slides meant to go together properly, but im sure it can be figured out without growing grey hairs

I just ordered these wheels from Carl @ force racing, but with black centres and polished outer.

They are 10x7, 3.5" inner and 3.5" outer rim

Thanks mate. Best bit is that over here you can put your numberplates on hold. So dads numberplates have been on hold since he passed away, and they'll be put on the mini once done. Everyone in the area knew his number plate, so they'll roam the streets again. Well...whenever i pull my finger out and get the car completed

Thanks for the kind words Gents,

Chris i want to put more detail in! My engineer is meant to come around and go over our plans and ideas tomorrow afternoon (Australian time). From that i hope i can start moving forward. The next thing i'd like to do is get the seats mounted properly, and get some turrets made up. Then start the jigsaw that will be the rear suspension. If the engineer likes the manner of our plans then i can fire the welder up and get **** done :D

Any extra detail i put in will help the engineering/road registration process later and help with anyone who wants to do the same. I don't know of anyone who has mounted these seats side-by-side (according to the manufacturer and my own research), so if i'm going to prove people wrong, i need photos of how it's done :D

oh and everyone just loves seeing pictures

The engineer came over on wednesday afternoon. We went through everything we could think of. The engineer was super helpful, and gave us some great additions.

We have a revised design for the rear end beam (will now pick up the original rear most subframe mounts), but we can have a higher/flat floor, move the battery into the cab behind the passenger seat, create new seatbelt mounts for lapsash when we tie the main roll cage hoop into the b-pillar, have a turret brace in the rear, run a fuel cell with a swirl pot (for future EFI), have a type of side intrusion system in the doors, we have a design for the seat mounts thats solid and works, should be able to legally run 10x7 wheels, braided brake lines, dual circuit brake system with lines in the cab, run an AFR guage, and a weber bulkhead box...

All completely legal and road registered/insured

So grabbed some sound deadener this morning. I wasnt expecting to buy any yet but it was 40% off

A mate and I have ordered some Dunlop Formula R tyres -->CLICK ME for 165/70R10 FORMULA-R D93J

Just also, seriously lacking motivation for this car. I have done bugger all to it for ages, and im struggling getting into gear. I know i have bought stuff, which is exciting, but getting my hands dirty hasnt happened in ages. I just grabbed a foldable seat and sat down to stare at it this evening for 40 minutes.

dude come on!   just think about what your motivation was to get this mini back on the road.  Personally I cant wait to see you rear beam setup.  I have been thinking about something similar.  Shell looks in really good shape.  Quite jealous of your climate there, It's much better for vehicle preservation.

I was born it Perth WA and loved it, then my parent took the decision to up and move us the the cold wet UK.  Thanks rents   lol

get those mits grubby.....

Jeez your folks are harsh! :P i'm surprised more people don't do the beam idea. Although due to the engineer, i need to make the beam into a frame with a few extra length of box section. It could be copied without the extra bits and still work just as fine. I think the engineer wants the extra framework for some sort of rear structure to stop rear impacts annihilating the fuel tank.

I am very lucky with the state of the body!

Thanks to both you guys! I really do appreciate the support. I know i won't let the car slip into just a memory, but i want to keep the passion for it going. I think about it constantly and how i can do things differently. I have a pretty clear image in my head of how i want things done, down to angles of steel work, and many things for later stages to keep the car fresh over time. I get frustrated with it if i can't make progress, and recently just some life stuff has interrupted the project. It sounds selfish but i have so much invested in this that i want to make sure it's done better than i can imagine, i'm an all-or-nothing type of guy.

So speaking of progress, i have some updates. not too much but some is better than none!

Carl at Force Racing posted this pic of a wheel on their Facebook page last night. Its exactly like what mine should be, and he mentioned they're for a far away land (Australia's pretty far from the UK!)

Even if not, my wheels are exactly this. Same offset, inner/outer dimensions, colour and style.

In other news im going to drop my weber and 12g940 head off to my mechanic John Leffler. He has finished my hubs with new bearings and CV joints, ball joints, brake lines, new brake switch etc; but wants the driveshafts so he can put the CVs and everything together. IF i have driveshafts then i'll drop the head and weber off together. Otherwise Leffler will order them in

So tonight (it's after midnight here) i was stuffing about with some of the steel, got more angles and sections cut for the rear frame. The top length in the boot will be the first strut brace (required by the engineer), but i think it might change to allow fitment of a fuel tank (and square section looks naff)

I figured i'd grab some photos of the motor. As far as i know, AEG312 means it's a thin walled block, but the flange for the gearbox is thick(?) Pretty sure they're also Hardy Spicer joints

I think the number on the gearbox casing says 22G1128. According to http://www.ozcooper..../new_page_3.htm it's a Mark2 Cooper S gearbox, which is a good thing...i think.

I have also heard on the grapevine of a new 200+hp (at a sensible level) supercharged lightweight mini coming up. Cant say anything more, but it should be special. It has the right people involved!
