Hi Guys,

Wondering if you can help me.i want to take out the original stereo on my 1985 Mini Mayfair fro an aftermaket stereo as you do.

i went to get a an adaptor for it from halfords as i thought that would be my best bet but the guy said he had never seen wires like this before... he also owned a mini. so they wouldn't have any adaptors or anything and that i would probably have to cut the wires and start front scratch but i wouldn't even know where to start with that :/

so if you guy could help me it would be much apprecitad :)

Jack

Wiring in some modern stereo wiring isn't hard.  Most of the time all you'll need is a fused permanent live, a fused switched ignition live, an earth, and then the wires for the speakers.

ISO plugs with tails of wire are available on ebay for not much.

You have the head unit fitted, it should have the wiring at the back of it

That's a very early radio installation, probably single speaker and no permanent supply.  What colour cables are in the body side of the connection (the black plug by the look of it)?  The connector is a Ripaults 'church window' type, the same as the rest of the ones in the car.  You can get them at auto electrical shops but I doubt anyone will have an off the shelf adaptor for them to use with either a DIN or ISO stereo.

The single cylindrical connector is a spring-load fuse holder. The top pushes down and twists to lock it on.

New radios are all negative earth ... hope your car is or it will never work.

I will have a look tomorrow and take some more pictures for you :)
