Hello & welcome to another of my Mini projects.

(I know it's becoming an addiction, but there is a plan somewhere).

It's a 1992 Mayfair in Carribean Blue. Purchased recently, with no engine.

I believe it was an SPI, (edit: not an SPI) but haven't checked the fuel tank yet. This injection malarky is all very new to me.

It was pretty complete other than that, but stripped out with a pile of bits.

At least that way I could see the shell fairly clearly.

Mechanically it's not bad. Complete & pretty well maintained.

It's had a new front & scuttle in recent years with a good paint job.

The panels fitting is not to the standard I would prefer but it's solid for a change for the cars I purchase.

It's had some fairly poor sill repairs & needs a new rear valance.

As it's already been striped out I will take off the subframes & any other parts I can within reason & get it on the spit jig to repair the sills & rear.

What I'm aiming to do is something simple but speedy. Maybe a hint of retro. The jury is still out on it's final purpose.

Hopefully not much paintwork needed. Just paint the repairs & touch up the scratches.

I'll try to keep the costs down by using as many bits I already have as possible with sympathetic repairs.

What about the MK2 project I hear some of you say! Well that will be running in parallel.

I'm hoping there will be some advantages to building two subframes or two gearboxes at the same time.

I do like a challenge. Also when one project is held up I can work on the other.

Just hope I don't get the two mixed up.

I don't have an engine yet, but looking around. Hoping to rustle up something like a 1380 or similar.

I have a gearbox I can rebuild, so it's a start.

My wife has tried out some names for it, but so far it's just 'Blue Mini'.

Well enough words, some pictures!

Thanks, it'll be hard to go too retro with this metallic colour. But there can be hints.

Ok, very fast update for a change.

I offered up some old 5x12 Revolutions, but they just weren't working for me.

So I blew the budget already on some 6x10 minilight replicas. But they do look better.

I also am trying out some group 6 arches that were left over from a previous project.

They fit the width perfectly. Just got to work out the best position for them. They will be colour coded.

The blue colour isn't widely available as far as I can see, so I got some spray cans from Bull Motiff.

I've hopefully located an engine block.

It's bare, so as with my other engine build for Bob, I'm going to have to source all the nuts, bolts & bits.

But at least the initial outlay is low.

I've already got a gearbox for rebuild, transmission housing & flywheel etc.

So just a case of filling the blanks.

Just emailed Rob Walker Eng. for quotes on engine mods.

Fingers crossed for non scary prices!

Managed to sell some posh seats that came with the mini, so the initial cost has reduced...!

Bargain.

Picked up a cylinder head today.

Might have some issues with one valve seat. But worth a go as the price was right.

35mm inlets, a little bit of porting done & 11 stud.

Tuftrided crank arrived in the post yesterday. So far so good for an economy build engine.

Got some connecting rods on the way.

My second DIY engine kit is coming together!

Got a quote back from Rob Walker Eng for some engine mods.

Not too scary actually. But I can ruin that with some extras like balancing & porting!

Block has arrived. Running out of floor space again!

Needs a clean, but nothing I haven't done before.

I was originally aiming for an A+ block, but this came up. Some claim the pre A+ is better to machine.

I'll combine A & A+ parts where possible.

My pride and joy is a 1993 mini mayfair in the same fab colour. Its a great colour polished up on a sunny day. I doubt it will be a SPI mine isn't it was on electronic dizxy and hiff38 carb. Walnut dash with clock in middle velour seats and door cards in pale grey. If i figure out to put a pucture on i will.

Good taste there Minipete, I've since found out mine isn't an SPI. Better for the emmisions test.

Yours sounds alot more shiny than mine right now.

I have most of the interior in the same pale grey, except front seats.

Looking forward to seeing yours in all it's glory!
