[Minitransition]

Progress to date:

 

Bought 1989 City, stripped to shell, cut out all rot, welded new sills front panel and rear valance. Numerous patches to inner sills and boot floor !

 

Fitted to rotator, stripped floorpan, stonechip sprayed, almond green colour coat underneath, roof sprayed whilst on rotator in old english white.

Quick update. Left bodywork for while as weather gone a bit wild !

 

Engine cleaned, new head (cracked one replaced), painted and cleaned and then fitted to powder coated front subframe.

 

All suspension cleaned, painted and ready for refit. I intend to drop car over top of fitted up subframe when completed. Maybe even run engine up in frame before fitting to shell - anyone done this??

Moved on to front suspension for a while now. Orange 'accessories' I think !

Nice project. Not done an engine run up out the car myself. Its so easy to fit and remove a mini block I'd just take the chance. Seen it done on Facetube though.

 

I see you have an auto. Good to see another one going back into a mini rather than swapping for a manual.

 

The mini I'm restoring will have a 998 auto going in once I've overhauled the box.

 

Looking forward to some more updates.

Been off this project for a while, been refurbing a 1956 Ford Pop !!!

 

Anyway - updates to shell and paint, no yet cut back and polished. Now sitting on suspension at rear and awaiting engine fitment which is already on subframe.

Slotted engine in on subframe from underneath.

 

It fits  !!!!

 

All in in less than an hour.

 

Now - wires and pipes / glass and interior !

Started wiring up and then headlining / interior to go in. Sprayed boot lid today.

Great project really enjoyed it - anyone else doing similar welcome to ask questions. I learn't a load.

Nothing so satisfying as the drive back from the MOT centre where 3 mechanics stopped work to come and have a look and a 'feel' underneath !!!
