Viper do you have any information on the engine with the "horribly" timed cam at all?

If I use the MG metro engine as my benchmark, how close would I come to those figures with 1149cc with the modified 295 head and a 266 camshaft?

Yes I would expect it to be in the ball park. It really does depend on how well built it is, how good the head is and most importantly how well run in it is.

Proposed engine specs are:

1098 +60
Fully balanced
295 head with 33mm inlet and 26.4mm exhaust valves
Russell Engineering 266 cam
Twin HS2s
Nissan Pulsar electronic distributor
Maniflow freeflow exhaust manifold and RC40 exhaust
10:1 compression ratio.

Any thoughts on this setup?

I don't have the lift and overlap lift figures for that cam to be able to advise on its characteristics.

I wish I could find the specs for that camshaft.

I'm wondering if my reasoning is correct. My aim for my engine is 70fwhp and 70ftlb of torque. Now the 1100 engine in my mini has brand new 48hp and 60ftlb. I've read in a few places that a standard 295 head shaved to bring the compression ratio to a respectable level adds about 9hp. So that would make the output around 57hp. A stage 1 kit gives increases of 20% in hp and 12% in torque. So that would bring the engine to around 68hp and 67ftlb at the flywheel. Am I off in the way that I'm thinking?

I think a 20% increase in power and 12% in torque for a simple stage one kit is more the exception than the rule. I expect those numbers to be "marketing figures" suitable only for pub banter.

70fwhp would be 85-90hp at the engine, which is a lot of power for a road going 1100 engine. That'd be pushing it for the twin HS2's too.

There is an article here, which makes 70hp at the engine with a cam, head, stage one kit etc.

Sorry Timmy that was meant to be flywheel horse power and torque. 90hp is a lot to expect from an 1100 without sending it to Russell Engineering.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 12G295 head and the C-AHT88 head from Minispares in terms of performance potential for the small bore. I know that the intake valves are about the same size and the exhaust valves are smaller in the 295 head. Just reading the link that Timmy850 added.
