Hi. I have now uploaded this video to YouTube to see if anyone can identify what it could be. Do not think it's valve clearances as I set them to 12 tho on both.
Engine 1275 A + with stage 4 head,276 can.
Tried clutch down and no difference. At the end when switch off you can just hear a noise again.

The sound reminds me of my loose pressure plate. But id guess that wouldnt be possible if the car drives fine

Valves and drop gears.

Nothing to do with the clutch change.

Nick. Valves or drop gears?

I did the primary gear end float as this was out of spec, when i changed the clutch and oil seal.

What do you think is the issue with the valves or drop gears.?

Dusky, seems to drive ok and clutch also is ok.

I did check timing by setting piston 1 to Tdc,marks on pulley and cover line up at 0. The rotor arm was pointing slightly off from plug lead 1 on the cap,but only a fraction towards no 3 lead, which I guess is ok.

Trying to understand what nick means by valves and drop gears?
Is it valves OR drop gears, and what would be the issue with them.
Cheers all.

This mini is starting to piss me off again, oil leak from clutch housing seems to be leaking again and only driven it to a mot station...must be leaking from elsewhere in the housing,as seal cannot go that quick!

The crank shaft seal can go that quick if you didn't protect it while pushing it over the primary gear. It gets damaged very easily.

Could a worn primary gear cause it to leak under the seal due to clearance, as it seemed a little worn were the oil holes are on it.

I really do not know where to start looking for the knock noise at all.

Hi Ollie,

From your video, I can't really hear anything seriously amiss. It sounds a little tappety but that's all. You could try re-adjusting your valve clearances and see if that helps.

What rockers are you running?

Cheers, Steve.

Are the rockers hitting the cover? Use a very long screw driver and place it against your ear or use a stheascope to help find the exact location of the noise

I am not 100% sure to be honest, think there just standard 1275 rockers, with 276 cam and apparently stage 4 head (12g940).
Did redo the valves, this time to 14 thou from 12,just to see even tho I thought this would make the clearance more tapperty...seemed the same.

I checked them hitting the cover by all seems fine after slackening and moving it slightly while running. My dad did try the screwdriver technique but could not pinpoint it..sound same everywhere he said.

I thought it seem loudest at rear of block near the carb...I'm stumped!

Right I had a drive today to get it up to temp and the sound does not seem as loud once warm, but still there.

I had 60lb oil pressure on cold that then went down to 40lb when warm?

Got back and even with a new dipstick, oil has leaked from the hole again and not sure why, unless the aftermarket fitment are not the best?

Cheers again olly

Think rockers are sintered, that's about all I know about them.

Oil pressure seems okay, what mileage is on the engine?

78k on clock, but probably done approx 2k since Last owner had detailed pics of engine strip, and a rebuild,if this is to be believed now!

But after contacting him not so long back,he did say the pistons were not changed and think he just had a new head with bigger valves added and to run unleaded, double springs, seats etc, and probably the 276 cam.

I wonder if the oil leak from dipstick the at speed and the oil leaking again from clutch seal area is down to blowby compression in block causing the leaks?
