To be honest we've had threads like this in the past and they haven't really ended up well.

Too many people think they can identify a ringer when they can't and when an innocent members car gets dragged into it, then that spells trouble.

If a prospective buyer sees a car that they would like verifying then that's fine.

Put perfectly shifty.

If you've done nothing wrong then there's no harm from this idea IMO. Granted some people might not know what they are doing is wrong, but that doesn't mean they can't be educated.

I will say it's wrong to try and tar an entire 'scene' with the same brush though. What's that all about?

You've changed the thread title from what it was and deleted the first post content to obscure what your intentions were and then acted like you were on the recieving end?

The idea is simple, put the reg of any v5s forsale WITHOUT shells in a thread, I tried to simplify the OP thats all, I can only think of one reason why some people are against this?

We ARE NOT IDENTIFYING ANYTHING no shell cars only!

I waffled too much in my first attempt, I even suggested mods created a specific thread just for cars with no shell, but the mere mention of including "questionable" cars sent everyone in a spin!

V5 without shell forsale, pops up six months later and its a 100% ringer!

What is to identify "shell in bits on the floor not included and have no photos" etc etc, its a v5 only no ifs no buts.

It's not the 'entire' scene but there is a massive chunk of people who think selling v5s is fine 'within' the scene, if you can point me to where I said the 'entire' scene I'll be happy to remove it :-)

Semantics. You put 'the mini scene', but you've now explained you just think a good chunk are open to selling V5Cs 😋
I'm just saying there's no need to point fingers in this way. I agree with what you are trying to do with the V5C, but you are detracting from the issue I feel.

If the Old Bill/DVLA/VOSA were as interested in preventing this they could easily do so. This applies to various classics as well as Minis. Land Rovers and VW Beetles come to mind.
They appear not to be interested however.
I have restored many Mk.1 minis and only once has a police inspection been requested and that was then deemed unnecessary when my Met Police friend said he would make the arrangements for it having workerd with me on the restoration.
If a dedicated small team addressed this issue for all classics it would soon stop when a couple of cars had been investigated and some prosecution enacted.

There's no need for me to even be a part of the suggested thread, I put that in the original post.

My idea was that anyone looking to purchase a car especially one they feel iffy about could scan the proposed thread, if the reg was sold a few months ago on ebay WITHOUT a shell then they could as a minimum question the seller about that massive issue, for those who already know what they are doing and happy to buy a tax exempt later car thats fine no one is stopping them including as you say the police.

Sounds like a good idea in principle. I thinks we should alert the appropriate police unit dealing with this and the forums for VW Beetles and early Land Rovers as they may wish to do the same.

Yep, I see even more of those pop up in my ebay search than minis, I don't actually look for them, I just have "classic cars" as a saved search in my ebay.

I just think it is something the classic car movement should be unified about and then it can bring pressure on the authorities to act appropriately to stop it.

Thing is we know that vosa/dvla/dvsa(whatever they are called at the moment) are actively looking at ebay and other sales sites.  The importation of ringers to the states has been clamped down on.

The best thing to do is report suspect sales. I'd actively encourage any user looking to buy a car and is unsure to post up and ask for advice, that's what we are here for.

I hate ringers as much as the next bloke, they demean our hobby but there are better ways to go about it.

I cant see why we are still discussing full cars, ebay don't appear to be doing anything if you tell them anyway.

Surely if someone comes on here and as you say asks for advice it would make life lots easier if the car they asked about was sporting a reg from the list of registrations sold without a car that went with it?
