Finally got the cylinder head bolted down and couldn't resist a quick test fit of the Supercharger (then wasted an hour just looking at it). :) :) :)

Not long now and I I'll be starting it up, then I have the question of how do you run in a new engine without an MOT I'm hearing that having it sat Idling at an MOT station before its run in is not good.

Looking great, I think the new Vmax kits look great and an improvement over the original long manifold design

cam timing looks to be measured right assuming that the protractor is set up at TDC ok, I always set them with a dead stop, ie somthing that stops the piston, eg, a plate bolted tot he block with  a stub/ bolt that goes down the bore, or a spark plug that has the porcelain shashed oput and a bolt throgh it.  then you can just gently wind it from one stop to the other and make sure the reading is the same for each.

105 sounds a bit advanced. what cam is it? if its somthing like a 286 its fine but if its somthing more forced induction orientated I'd expect closer to 110 degrees.

Hi

Thanks for the confirmation of my measurement method, although I didn't use a dead stop I'm pretty confident I did find TDC. Its a 263deg Cam as supplied with the kit. would you expect this timing to cause an issue?

totaly depends on the cam, do you know what it is?

basically you need to klnow the LCA angle, which is the angle between the inlet max lift and exhaust max lift, you can  check the lift on the exhaust lobe and see where it fall's,

This weekend saw a huge milestone reached in the building of Eric's engine (11 months into the 10 month project).......

Firstly the Flywheel housing was fitted and Clutch / Flywheel assembled:

Then came the exciting bit............

With all the plumbing back on I filled the engine with Oil and turned it over to check that I got oil pressure (I do have a video but no idea how to post it).

The engine seemed to turn over smoothly with no bangs or clunks and after a few seconds I got 65 -70 lbs  pressure :)

Unless anyone can tell me otherwise that seems good and It now means the engine is ready to go back into the back.

Ups 😁 and downs 😕 today, it started off well with the first of the pieces going back into the engine bay, and the brakes being plumbed in.

But when it came to tightening up the bolts that hold the brake master cylinder down its obvious that at least 1 of my pedal box studs are knackered!!!!

Im guessing ive got 2 options:

1. New pedal box (if anyone has one or knows where i can get one cheap let me know).

2. Drill out the stud and replace with a bolt:

    - is this safe?

    - is it realistic to think i can drill out that stud with a hand drill? Im guessing its going to be tough.

That's a shame Oliver, I don't have one but a club member has alot of spares, I could ask him. Could you not try and re-tap a new thread?
