It was all a bit odd for me and i doubt i will watch next week. Ill just wait for The Grand Tour to start and see what that has to offer. I'm hoping it will be loads of mucking about like they did on Top Gear before because who wants to see boring car reviews?

If i want to know what a car is like, ill test drive it and decide myself

I completely agree, if I wouldn't buy a car based on anyone elses view, but no-one is going to lend me a Veyron to drive through Europe

I've never enjoyed Chris Evans as a presenter and on Top Gear he's just a pretender. I actually quite like Joey, he made me laugh a couple of times. He's also a proper car guy. Evans, despite owning half the cars in the world, almost looked like he would poo himself at any minute.

What did you think of Top Gear last night?

Same old format but worse presenting sums it up for me........also too much SHOUTING so I won't be watching next week.

Agree totally. I only got through twenty minutes before I got bored and switched over to something that turned out to be both wittier and more life-affirming. I'm not joking; I turned over to a documentary about Auschwitz survivors!

It makes you realise how good the scripts used to be - largely Clarkson's work - and we all know how essential was the interaction between the "three stooges" because Top Gear America and Top Gear Australia have already failed to ring the bell! A few years ago the BBC tried the same wizard japes in a cookery series with Rusty Lee and a couple of unmemorable chaps. That bombed too!

What odds that this series of six will be the swansong of the entire franchise?

Jon

I thought the catering and stig quips were fairplay, Clarkson has done similar after the event. I cringed more at Debian's "pale" quip on the spin off. If it ain't broke don't fix is Evans's approach it is not so much broken as worn out and what better time for a refurb?

The 'If it ain't broke' quote just about sums it up: It was tired, if not completely broken and in need of a revamp, and what a perfect time to start afresh with a blank piece of paper....

The BBC missed a great opportunity.

Liked the rallycross 'update'.

And if Matt LeBlanc is the 'answer', what was the question?

And why does the director continue to punctuate the programme with shots of woman in the audience.?

Why the producer continues to punctuate the programme with shots of women in the audience you ask?

Well, because its the BBC of course!

I found it cringey. Joey was quite funny in bits but the funniest part was the studio audiences miserable and uninterested faces...like they wished they were anywhere else.

Can't say i was ever that interested in the old Top Gear

Except the road trips

But this was even worse... I'll probably watch the next few episodes to see where they go with it

Well the first episode was abysmal. I felt the new line up lacked the Chemistry with the old trio, Im sure it will get better with time, but Clarkson, Hammond and may are a match made in heaven and I don't think they will be topped here, the hilarity came from the characters and no amount of pretending and shouting will change that, the BBC need to move on and completely overhaul the show if they want it to be a winner - the old trio did their act, change it up or don't bother!

I got that too. It felt like LeBlanc was only just tolerating Evans and it just seemed like he didn't really want to be there almost...

my other point on this is. If I was paid the amount of money the presenters are getting I would have done a better job

Definite Cringe-fest!!!  Might as well have been presented by Vivian, Rick and Neal from the Young Ones!!!  I hoped to see a new completely revamped format with some new ideas, not just a re-work of the old programme.

Hopefully it will improve - time (and reviews) will tell!!!

I thought it was a bit lacking in the production 'n cinematography that probably made it an international success, I guess that's why.

I'm sure that's only because the shorter women are at the front so they get a better view.

I watched it and wasn't that impressed.  Evans did annoy me but he is a half decent presenter and can at least read off an autocue (something that Leblanc can't).

I didn't like the Vette v Viper bit - just didn't have the same inventiveness that TG of old had and Evans shouting really did grate.

Really like the Ariel Nomad scenes - thought Leblanc was very natural and funny and was heaps better in the car than he was in the studio.

Stars in the car - liked the Rallycross (I want a go!) and i'm surprised no one on here has had a pop at them using a MINI!!!!  Thought it was very cringe with Gordon Ramsey showing off with how he has got one LaFerrari but has got that much cash he's buying another limited edition one.....more elitist BS like Evans has on his radio show where he lets rich plonkers bid for an over priced day in his cars....but it's for charity so it's all ok is it?

Reliants up to Blackpool.....errrrrr......why?

Jeep v Landy..........mmmmmm.......kinda enjoyed it but seemed rushed and lacked a bit of something......sun probably!!!

Will I be watching again?  probably

And to those who are shouting that the stig needed to go.....it's a much bigger thing than just the show. TG and the stig is a brand, and a brand that the BEEB does very well out of flogging all sorts around the world. So just because us petrol heads think it's a bit naff and that it should go, there are others (mainly 5 - 10 years olds I suppose) that find it all very entertaining and will want to watch the programme and buy the stig branded whatever.

I think the best thing for everyone is to just give it another go, leave off the Evans bashing (even though he is very annoying) and just enjoy the show for what it is - when the directors, producers and camera folk get the shots and footage just right it is just like the old TG, and if Evans annoys you, just hit the mute button and shout POOWWWWWWAAAAAARRRRRRRR in your best Clarkson impression.

I like the Stig concept. For "Top Trumps" style comparisons you need to push the cars to their limit, but also consistently. It is all a bit school playground, but there's no other justification for featuring cars hardly any of your audience could hope to own.

Some telemetrics might add to the Anorak appeal and give their interweb presence a boost. Just for devilment I'd drop the lap times and put average mpg on the leader board.  :P
