I can't believe the muppets on here consistently being rude (whilst saying they aren't!) to owners of new minis. A simple comment like 'this site is aimed at classic mini owners so perhaps try mini 2. Com for a more informed answer' isn't difficult and I don't get the need for the comments which pretty much say 'f£ck off'.
Site admins, I for one think that these responses do the site no favours so please have a word with the idiots who seemingly take pleasure at being obnoxious to bini owners.

totally agree with this chap after years on this site one of the TEAM was rude to me and because of that my project threads are on another mini forums ,negative comments are not needed ,people of all ages and different competencies need help

Would it reduce confusion if something like the following was put on the login page - I know it asks the question about when the classic mini went out of production, but obviously that's not helping:

"This forum is aimed at those who own and are interested in the classic Mini, made from 1959 to 2000. If you are looking for details or help on the BMW Mini, built from 2002 onwards, we recommend you try another forum such as www.mini2.com or www.totalmini.com"

I guess it isn't clear enough?

"Registration Question *
The Mini Forum is for owners and enthusiasts of the classic Mini. What year did the classic Mini cease production?"

I think the problem lies with the internet generation. No matter how we write something and want it to be interpreted the majority of people who look to the internet for an answer are used to signing up and just box ticking through disclaimers and entry questions without really reading them thoroughly. They are focused on their problem and want to get to the forum as quickly as possible.

Perhaps there should be a further statement which reads something like "If your car was originally registered after 2000, you need to look at a BMW MINI site.

Or if you MINI is the size of a bus, has a six-speed gearbox, has 16" or greater diameter wheels, or has a diesel engine, it's probably not a Classic Mini .. :-)

(a poor attempt at a light-hearted response).

It's slightly confusing that classics are Minis, while BMW ones are MINIs? Surely from a conversational point of view it only makes sense if you shout MINI when referring to them? Never did understand the all capitals thing. Weirdly, the early MINIs are surely old enough to be modern classics by now anyway? I'm toying with idea of buying  an early one as a cheap runaround? It's got to be more fun than most of the euroboxes from the same period?

Without this turning into a bunfight we try and make it obvious when you join the Forum that we are a classic Mini forum and not the later BMW Mini forum, HOWEVER and this does seem to escape some members on here, a lot of our current membership own both.

So going on from there a polite and short reply directing them to more suitable forums is the correct way to go, but also to add that while we do cater predominantly for Classic minis some members do own both and maybe able to answer your question, however this may take a lot longer.

And we will not be having a sub section for BMW Minis. This has been discussed numerous times and the answer is still no.

The word MINI in BMW MINI'S is in uppercase because BMW wanted the branding to be different between Rover Mini's and their new model.

That's good news because considering the amount of queries we currently receive for Bini's I don't think it would take very long to be swamped if we ended up with a sub section.

The thing is if you type in Mini forums in Google guess who comes up first??? That is part of the issue

My original post lacked tact & diplomacy -I SHOULD have worded it better.

As stated I was NOT trying to be rude-    I stated a simple fact:  'not may of us own/know/or care about the BMW MINI'

.... in the same way that not many of us own/know/or care about the Citroen Picasso

.... or a Mercedes A Class

... etc, etc

It's made plainly obvious when you join this site that it's aimed at the Issigonis Mini & it's derivatives

& therefore not the best resource if you own a BMW MINI, drive a Mini JCB, or are an avid collector of Mini Mouse memorabilia.

Hopefully someone in Admin can now lock this thread & put an end to this storm in a tea cup.

How is it that no one has a moan when someone posts a topic in the motor mouth section about a car that has nothing to do with a Mini but as soon as someone mentions BMW MINI people go mad?!

And no I don't own one....

Because most only have a BMW MINI ... if you are referring to the Megane posts, he has a classic too.

If that were true I could understand the sentiment.
In this case it wasn't posted in the motor mouth section originally.....I moved it here as the post wasn't about classic minis.

Actually I wasn't referring to any particular post. Just generally saying that people don't tend to moan about it when it happens unless it's about a BMW MINI
