Hi all, I have just done my first turn over of my rebuild and my oil pressure gauge isn't moving whilst cranking it over. Any ideas on what to do? Im feeling pretty demoralised at the moment.

Mine is purple, but I have been told that's normal

Did you prime the pump?

All oil gallery plugs refitted?

Did you fill the filter before fitting?

O-ring fitted between block and box?

How long have you been cranking for ?

Has the guage ever worked? If yes what is different.

Backfill the oil pump and try again (oil down the oil transfer pipe from the top of the block, pushing the car backwards in gear for the oil pump to suck it through)

Pump primed, gallery plugs fitted, o ring fitted. I didn't fill the filter. Is that where I might have gone wrong? I cranked it at least 30 times.

The gauge worked before. However I did get a second hand oil feed pip from the block. I wonder if it was blocked. Is there a manual test I can do?

Does the light go off?

I'm sure it's never had a light for oil pressure.

Loosen it a bit and see if some oil comes out.

Sometimes they do need a good cranking, up to a few minutes, though if everythings right and the Oil Pump is primed (noted you've done that) it usually takes 30 - 60 seconds.

If there is oil in the filter is that a sign the pump is working as it should?

Disconnect it and crank once does everything in front get covered with oil?

Yes then you might have a blocked pipe.

Disconnect from guage. Crank engine does the inside of the car get covered with oil? No then you have a blocked pipe.

Note take care and catch any oil that may be ejrpected under pressure from your orifices.

To help mine get oil pressure on its first run I turned it over with the filter loose / off.

Put a tray under it though

IT is also good to have a screw in pressure guage at times like this so you know you are not going mad.

Like I almost was before.

See pressure guage at the startish.
