It may just be that you have not yet spun it fast enough for long enough.
Hook the battery up to another car with jump leads, run the other car's engine at over 1500 rpm, then spin the Mini engine and I bet the pressure will come up within 30 seconds of constant cranking.

It takes quite a while to fill an empty oil filter just cranking the motor.

Always worth filling, even when changing the oil. A lot easier with the later fiters, early ones can get a bit messy...

Is it an electric oil pressure gauge? Mine will not read while cranking and it scared the hell out of me while cranking without plugs after gearbox and oil pump replacement. Luckily, there was enough residual pressure after cranking that the gauge would read something as the ignition key went from start to run.

I'm assuming it is a new pump, but how long have you had it? Is it a MiniSpares turbo pump?

It's a mechanical gauge

I bought it new from minispares about a year ago, fitted to the mini primed about April. It's a normal a series pump.

After cranking pop the rocker cover off can you hear the oil? Then you have flow and most likely pressure.

Check like has been suggested earlier.

Update- took filter off but empty. Spun back on loosely and cranked it over about 30 times. Nothing went into the filter. Got to recharge the battery again now.

Will filling the filter with oil help generate pressure?

Yes (I think) but it should be filling

Your pump is not pumping oil.

If you have primed it you have a build is due I would say the O ring between block and gearbox.

o ring is definitely in there, I know for sure because I remember making sure it was seating right when I put the box to block. I'm going to give it another crack of full battery tomorrow.

are you saying the pump should at least be shifting oil to the filter regardless of pressure?

Yes. I would have expected the filter to have been filled by now.

As you have primed the pump it should be pulling oil if it can.

So either the pump is not actually moving or it is pumping air.

But to check.

You are not cranking with the plugs in.

Leave your battery on charge for 24 hours.

Prime the pump again and try again. If nothing remove guage pipe from block and crank see if it spits oil out. I think it will not.
