not had chance to do much on the mini recently, i am building a duratec now to put in the bmw, so im concentrating on doing that atm. But today i decided to have a go at mounting the Lada mono injection onto the spi inlet manifold. First i got both gaskets and put them on top of each other to see if there was any conflicting holes, but it was ok. Then my brother scanned both gaskets and superimposed them. We then printed that out and i taped it to some 15mm ally
I hand drilled the holes into it
I didnt have a 44mm hole saw so i had to chain drill the hole in the middle, and power file it out
then shaped it with the grinder and sanded it with the DA..
well impressed with it. Just need to work out what air filter to use now really. Ive ordered some gasket paper , my brother can laser cut me some special shaped ones for the conversion.
If you can t see the pics, it is something im trying to sort out.

they are amazing for the price. i worked out they use something like 0.22w each, and the light is fantastic.

oh fantastic, my brother did something and it works again now, we host pics on his own web space.
not done much to the mini, i started with the duratec conversion, then decided the volvo was the better motor so just doing a few jobs on that, but i have done a throttle linkage for the injection now..
i am going to get a carb and manifold for it, just so when i do eventually sell the car, it can go back to standard.
I am having thoughts now of RC40 type exhaust, and maybe tinting the rear windows, but not sure yes as it has the wheel trims lol. Maybe look a bit retro, not decided yet,

not a massive update but !
I decided to put one of the doors in primer
then i thought that ok car is needing paint now, but then i have the duratec and the volvo engine in the garage atm, and the engine stand. So i have decided to build the 998
the stand dosnt take to the mini engine that well, so i made a new mount out of exhaust tube, and plates
I had started to build it before, but i took it apart as i wasnt happy, and i was glad i did. I must have got some dirt in the main bearings, and i had damaged the crank, so i had it polished and i got new bearings. Much easier now on the engine stand, and probably trying to build it on the bench was how the dirt got in it.
i put the cam in and the chain on to see how it looked, and remembered, i need to measure the cam timing! So that is maybe what ill be doing tomorrow...
I will strip the box when the block is built, too many parts in teh box to loose i recon !

did a bit mroe today to the engine. I have started to built it more but i know parts will have to come off again for paint, but just want to know ive got all the bits now.
ive put an order into mini sport for some parts and with the long weekend comming i may get the engine done!

a bit of an order came from minisport
I hadnt planned on getting the maniflow, but it i think is right for the car. You wont see it and itll be nice.
i set about doing the cam timing today, see how far out it is, so i made a tool, its a plug with the inside smashed out of it and then a nut welded onto it
You put this down the bore, bring the piston no.1 up to it so it hits, so i had 68 degs, so i halved that and turned the engine over the other way so the piston hit, and i had 34 degs. So checked aback the other way, and now i had 34 degs, so i had the 0 on my guague at TDC perfectly set
then put the dti on no1 inlet, and checked for full valve lift.
to my surprise it was at 108 degs, so i just left it and started to resemble more of the engine..
Now, i had a trial fit of the lada mono injection, and well, it didnt fit, but also looking at the engine, i recon ill be better with a single su, more fitting with the car, but still ill use the ecu to do the spark.
tomorrow ill be taking the box apart
sprayed it with jizzer tonight, see how it cleans up tomorrow.

i had decided late last night that there was no point in stripping the box, if it was bad, id just replace it. so today i stripped the box!?!
first i jet washed it and put it on the heater to dry
and then stripped it
i noticed the box has been apart before, or at least the diff and it got me wondering as the box has from what i can tell, no wear in it at all. But at least i know now. so tomorrow ill put it back together with new gaskets, so it should be oil tight at least.

gave the box another clean today, and started to put it back together. i think i need to strip it again as ive got a bit wrong somewherel
i think that is 4th gear going too far ont eh shaft when selected.
