so here you can see the shaved carpet with the seal fitting over the door flange AND the carpet.

 

Anoth thing I was not happy with was the carpet around the handbrake. This pic shows the original carpet with just a slit for the handbrake to poke through the carpet. I was not happy with this.

it looked worse with the red carpet fitted, as the white paint showed through.  I removed the carpet and looked at the handbrake assembly.

I had some red felt, which I wrapped the handbrake bracket, sorry no photo. I removed the handbrake, cut two small slits for the cables to go through then refitted the handbrake.   In my mind this looks a bit neater, I did contemplate using red shrink wrap on the cables, but the shrink wrap I have is just too small.

Inner rear quarter trims have now been fitted

I used a sound deadening pad to insulate and keep the noise down.

The panels were a t*at to fit and chipped the paint on the sill edge! The bin liners were also a bit of a struggle to get in. These trim panels look fine but must be slightly different size wise to the BMC trim. The ashtray was also a struggle to fit, but it is in.

Ohh one other thing, I pushed the boat out last year and sold my MINI Countryman PHEV.

I part ex’d it for this.

the old is on the right, with the new KIA EV6 on the left. It took a while to get, ordered 10 May taking delivery on 4 Nov. It is a beast 325bhp, 600Nm torque and a sub 5 second 0-60mph!  It has some nice tech on it but has not been without it’s problems. Over the winter the heating was not working properly nor was the pre heat. But I was able to use a 240v fan heater plugged into the socket it the front of the back seat!

 

I had been hoping to photograph Duffy and the MINI side by side, but alas Duffy is not yet on the road. It should have been finished this time last year!!

I’m a happy chappy this morning!

I fired up Duffy yesterday, the first time in 15 months or so.

However it was not running well, it was spluttering & farting and wouldn’t rev. Last time it ran, it was fine, it was very low on fuel in fact when it cut out it had probably run out of fuel. I did find the nylon vacuum advance pipe had been touching the head, had got hot and flattened, so I have pieced this through.

I also fitted the drivers seat, but when seated, the clutch did not feel right, pedal went half way down then got stiffer, I did have troubles with the clutch a while back, not disengaging, so was expecting this to be causing grief again.

I went with Gerry Can to the filling station, I thought I would put a tenners worth in, but let it run to just over £15, I looked at the fuel not the amount of fuel, you have seen above my daily driver is all electric, when I looked on the fuel receiptI only had 8.3L!

£15 of electric in the EV6 is good for around 800 mile!

Put new fuel in this morning, tried to fire up the car, it took a while to draw through the fuel, then fired up and sounded fine, after a few minutes the choke was pushed fully home and the engine was revving fine, just like it should.

I then tried the clutch, initially it would not go into first, so I turned off the engine, engaged first and fired up the engine, all gears selected quietly, and the car (still in garage) was wanting to drive as it should,

So all is looking good.  I have a short video of the car running, but I don’t know how or if I can upload it on here.

you may notice I sprayed the bars in the grille area Matt black, but I missed the inside of the bar on the bonnet so the white shows through! I will attend to that before I fit the grille to the bonnet.

 

Then I noticed the vey tight tolerance between the edge of the bonnet and the wiper arm so close it has chipped the paint on the bonnet!!

I was not happy about this, it looks like I may need to trim down the wiper arm with a grinder.

Don’t know why some of theses pics have rotated through 90 degrees, apologies for that.

The spindles are usually quite a loose fit in the holes in the scuttle - you may find if you slacken the nut you can push it a bit nearer the windscreen.

I can't see how grinding anything will help.

Great thinking as usual Graeme.

The bit I was thinking of grinding was the curved bit of the arm where it pivots on the spindle adapter, this is a little bit proud and sharp. But I think I will try loosening the spindle nut first as you suggest.

I think the main problem are your reproduction wiper arms. They tend to sit too high and too far away from the scuttle compared with original left or right hand park wipers.

About 1/4" clearance between both wiper arms and bonnet with original wiper arms.

Had a bit play about with the wipers today. 

I slackened off the mounting nuts to see if I could gain a bit more clearance, but there was no movement.

Here is the wiper arm, it has a bit on the flange which seemed to be causing trouble.

I ground the ‘flange’ down to ensure it a bit more clearance.

I resigned myself to having the remove the wiper system to see if I could insert a spacer to make a bit more room.

 

The bonnet was fitted VERY quickly recently and the latch was not releasing so I striped this down, removed the old congealed grease, cleaned the mechanism before re greasing it and refitting it.

When I was trying to adjust the gaps in the bonnet fit I discovered the bolts to the hinges were still slack, as a result the rear of the bonnet was dropping when opened causing it to contact the wipers arms!!! What a dozy sod!!! I should have checked the bonnet fit first, I could have saved myself a bit of grief!

I was considering getting some motivation hinges the enable the bonnet to open a bit more, however they are no longer available. I have another idea in my head, with a bit of luck I may be able to cobble something up to assist the bonnet opening. It is bad enough on a Mini, but the Elf has the radiator grille on it which makes access even worse!

A bit more work done this last couple of days.

I have fitted all the chrome work around the passenger door and have fitted the sliding windows and the interior trim.

I am also going to mount a bullet type mirror onto the front window.

I have refitted the rear arch with Riv nuts, but need to raise & refit the NSF wheel arch.

I have now got both arch extensions fitted & sealed on the NS, so I thought I’d have a go with the chrome trims.

I started at the rear, attached the trim to the end of the extension and used a warm air gun to attempt to mould the trim around the corner.

I tried a bit more, it fits nicely over the arch, until…..

I obviously am not doing this correctly. I have checked forums etc, some say use a hairdryer some say don’t, some say use hot water, others say don’t. Admittedly I used a hot air gun, but I used it on a low heat setting, so much so it took a while for the trim to warm up.  I shall have to have a rethink about this. I did honestly beleive it would have gone or relatively quickly and easily, how wrong was I?

I've done this before by fitting the trim with the tight curves in line with the curve of the material as it comes off the roll, this makes it a lot harder to bend around the arch but helps when trying to get it into the tight corners.

 

I've had some success by doing it this way but always found trying to bend into the tight curves against the natural bend in the roll has failed.

Not posted much as I have been away in my MoHo.

sliding windows now fitted in drivers door. I have also started with the under seal protection. Started with the OS wheel arch, all the suspension parts have been masked off. 
Ohh the joys of an attached garage, the conservatory now stinks of the Shultz I am using!

PS have given up with the sill moulding for the time being.  But the car is now ‘taxed’ & insured so I can legally drive it on the road.
