Hi guys

Thought Id start a project thread, back into the fold of minis after a few years away tinkering with a few other cars but back now
So anyways here she is, a 1985 mini Mayfair 998, only got 33k on clocks so barely been run in! It has had a few quid spend on her over the years, has come with a stage one kit fitted, 7.5 Minispares brakes, Hilos and various other spares heres the photos from the advert hopefully they work

The headlights are the only thing I dont like about that car so they were swiftly removed as soon as I got her homeYjeQ0DQ.jpg
Looking much better

The car came with a mountey wheel and a set of 10x6 starmags that were temporarily fitted but I picked up some other wheels off a friend if mine and fitted some mk2/3 lights I had lying around

Will be a bit of a slow project but hopefully get her set up properly theres a slight flat spot under acceleration which I need to look at, it does look like the carb has hit the bulkhead so possibly a bent jet,
She also doesnt like the rain, a bit annoying as we live in the uk where it never seems to stop
raining haha
Any comments welcome
Jack

Nice one Jack. Reminds me of my old Mayfair (same year). Is that Monza or Targa Red?  :gimme:

Yup they were Reverse Rims. Sadly I sold the car back in 2004 when life got in the way but it was a lovely thing to drive - 1302cc, MED head, Twin 1 1/4"s, Maniflow, homemade dash, MPi seats, Fiesta Mk1 Foglights on the rear valance, KAD Quickshift, Koni Shocks and grooved S discs with braided hoses. Made about 80BHP. It had flip paint on just the roof (the only one I ever saw like that) and a "Push Once" starter button from an old bus I found in a scrapyard.

The guy I sold it to was in the RAF in Scotland, he drove 14 hours to pick it up! He chucked a 1380 in it (my old engine was blowing a bit heavily by then) and changed the wheels for 10" Minilights. He then sold it in about 2008 to a guy in Oxfordshire and then it ended up in Clacton (where I used to live!!) ready to go back on the road. It hasn't been taxed since the end of 2015 though and isn't on SORN. Wonder if anyone on here knows about it?

That’s sounds like a lot of fun then, would be looking in the future to convert this to 1293 or 1310 the 998 is good but just lacks a bit of power want to sort the suspension out first then the power haha, ah that’s a shame hopefully someone has it in the garage somewhere rather than it being scrapped

Went for a bit of drive today and took a few pics of the car, starting to get a list of things together to get done before some summer trips, already done a oil change and filter and swapped the pressure relief valve for the ball bearing type as the cartridge one had some marking on it, first things will be electronic ignition then plugs, leads, and dizzy cap/rotor arm.

Looks great and quite unmolested, which is unusual these days.

Good luck and welcome back :)

Took some more general pictures of the car today, didn't like the red carpet to start with but it is definitely growing on me, had to replace the solenoid this weekend as the old one broke and left me with no electrics bloody rain! got a splash guard fitted now so that should help a bit

Will be converting to a centre binnacle and probably get the works dash boards fitted as well

there's also some speakers that have been cut into the parcel shelf but not a fan of them being there so will move them under the rear seat

not much to report at the moment just getting the car ready for a few summer road trips, what is a priority at the moment is the front and rear screen seals they have both shrunk and let alot of water in which is never good so come payday ill be getting them replaced which should be fun  O_O

went to Spring Action Day at Castle Combe on saturday so heres a few pics from then

got a few bits done to the car over the last week or so, painted the rocker cover and engine and a few other bits

changed the accelerator cable, fuse box and engine top stabilizer bush. Unfortunately the welded bracket has pulled away from the body, its got a ultimate engine steady so should be okay until i can get it repaired. Changed the rear screen seal and replaced the window as the old one had broken tabs for the heater so it didn't demist. Went for a few drives so heres a few random pics

Next job on the list is going to be replacing the dizzy with a lucas electronic one and change the coil over to a non ballast coil and wiring with it and the HT leads and new plugs
