Still at it, I love the red door cards with old English white.

Used TRG vinyl paint, Scarlet 339 to cover the sun bleaching, very happy with the result.

We also bit the bullet and finally bought an industrial sewing machine to make new seat covers. This one came from a lovely bloke in the west midlands whose dad used to run the fabrics department at Longbridge. It's a lovely original BMC era machine. Looking forward to practicing with this.

I started to get the 1100 engine ready to drop in. I've had this a few years now and was told it just needed a new clutch (and crank seal) which I replaced.

First I dropped the oil:

Oh dear!

Oil pump quite badly scored

The gear set looked fine to me but John Guess pointed out my second gear is knackered. And the first isn't too healthy either.

Just wow. Never seen this before, somebody decided that a glob of silicone would substitute for the oil pickup O-ring. I've lost the photo before I prized this off, but the gallery was almost completely blocked by the silicone.

Poking around in the drain plug I could tell there was some substantial bits collected there. I think this is an old idler gear bearing. So somebody has changed the idler without splitting the box to find all the pieces of the old one.

The other idler bearing has noticeable play. The layshaft and bearings are just on the way out.

I will need to delay for a month or so until I can afford some parts.
