Although I don't always agree with Vizards ideas, I do think that he's correct with regard to full radius ram pipes/stub stacks. The problem with flow bench testing is that it just measures flow, rather than showing where the flow is. If a full radius is preferable, then a full 360deg radius should be better than a 270deg one? You'd need some fancy software to show the flow patterns probably.

You don’t necessarily need to see directly where the flow is taking place, simple comparative testing will show this between different designs. Although I’ve actually pulled smoke through my bench as it’s interesting to watch the flow patterns. Until the workshop fills up that is !

Phil.

My personal conclusions;

- engine runs better as more air coming through to feed the stage 3;
- no more multiple starts to get it going when it's cold outside - was the case with cone filter - likely had mixture slightly off but resolved;
- certainly more torque and likewise even better response;
- definitely the fastest mini of the 12 or so we have around town - I would say a solid 90hp;
- it just sounds well put together.

I am extremely happy with the MED foam filter/stub stack and would recommend anytime

Nick

It's the standard stainless steel housing that it came with - not sure what you are asking for - that in turn attaches to the HIF with typical bolts and washers

Thanks Phil, bearing in mind that a full radius is preferable, how much difference do you think it makes when part of that radius is removed as is the case with the MED stub? I suppose a MED stack could have a temporary piece put in to do the comparative test that you mentioned.

I’d love to see the smoke patterns, I might even make a flowbench if we’re locked down for months.

I think he means the baby breather style one that is still connected to the carb, possibly to the fuel overflow

Get rid and pipe it away from the carb. You don’t want something like that holding any vapors above the exhaust.

Not so sure that K&N oil is compatible with foam as its designed for cotton gauze type filters. You might want to check with MED for an answer.
