I just know there'll have been millions more with knackered rubbers that didn't bust their balls.

I'm certainly not saying you shouldn't do something to stop the swivel pins getting to their limit. Damper travel does seem a better option: less leverage and it'd be more obvious if wear allowed the issue to resume.

Also a tad surprised that the makers of aftermarket goodies didn't address the issue by realigning the drillings & facing.

There is an extended version available in the States, but its quite expensive.

I bought my current Mini with adjustable lower arms already fitted. Not sure what, if any, measures have been put in place to mitigate the effects of full droop suspension travel. Will have to go and check when lockdown restrictions permit.

As a point of note the Mini Spares website also states, under one particular listing for a negative camber lower arm,

'When increasing negative canber ST Abingdon always advised fitting a 3mm plate under the top arm where the bump stop 2A4267 hits to prevent undue strain on the driveshafts.'

With some Shocks for Lowered Cars, you don't need to fit the packer in there as the Shocker will prevent the Arm going to full droop, but as there's no standard for these shorter shocks, you need to check with them fitted to the car, on full droop and all steering angles.

Which balljoints need checking, both top and bottom (as I will need to pop the rubbers off to see properly)?

You could a version of Oz’s solution but leave a rubber stop in place

I could replace the bolts in my top arms with exhaust cotton reel cut in half.
Rubber, (or poly from Minispares), and adjustable.

To be precise it is a rebound stop, not a bump stop.
The easiest way is to put a 3mm shim under the rebound stop.
Elongate the fixing hole with a round file by 3mm.

Most of the ones I’ve used barely have 3mm of material to extend the hole into.

Bottom Ball Joint and best check through all steering angles. The fact of it is that on full lock, either way, even the standard set up will bind - just.

Anyone fancy making a batch of vernier adjustable top shocker mounting brackets?

Of course Minispares produce some for lowered cars that give us a bit of an extra option - C-AJJ3359

That's only about the cost of a month's supply of the original article  :D

...assuming they last.

They list a useful looking poly & stainless version too.
