Hi can anyone tell me what the purple(?) warning light means on the Lowe part of the speedo of a 1275gt.
it has a bulb behind it but I don’t know what it’s for.

Main beam warning light?

I’ll take a picture tomorrow but it is actually on the speedo dial at the bottom, not on the fuel/temp gauge dial.
I could only tell it was purple because I removed the bulb figment from the back and held it up to the light.

Possibly not a true 1275GT speedo - the same/similar units were used in other cars, such as the Morris Marina TC

The main beam light is the blue one located at the top centre of the triple dial housing and between the indicators, so I don’t think it’s this.

I recall there is another warning lamp that's unused and I don't think there's a socket for a bulb for that matter, but there's a window in the bottom of the Tachos and Speedos. I think all the ones I have are red.

I have now taken a few pictures and you can see at the bottom of the speedo there is a purple lens. I have removed the bulb at the back which you can see in the back shot.
There is a blue lens at the top center of the temperature/fuel dial. This is the main beam I think.
Any ideas what the purple light is for or is it just something that isn't used in a mini?

The warning light in the bottom of the Speedo is the High (Main) Beam indicator (I had incorrectly thought when I posted my last that this was in the center clock).
The ones that's at the top of the center clock and lower on the Tacho isn't used in a Mini.
These clock sets were also fitted to the Marina and possibly other cars of the era, so the unused lamps may have been used in those marques for other purposes.

Thanks Spider. That solves an issue.

Update Re the “purple light”.
Hi Spider, upon further investigation I can confirm that the “full beam” blue light is in fact at the top of the central dial (on a 1275gt).
the “purple light at the bottom of the speedo, is not used on the Mini.
I think you had it the wrong way round but having traced the wiring and the flimsy circuit board on the back of the dials, it is definitely as above.
Thanks for looking at this for me.
