Hi guys , I bought a set of minilite 12x5 alloys that came with competition use only tires on them and am looking to change to something road legal , what do you guys recommend. I’m also looking to sell the old tires as they have had next to no use and have a lot of tread left if anyone wants them .

It depends on the manufacturer date. I'm sure yokohama made the 048 as a competition only tyre after a certain date

Yeah , if you look on the mini spares website it says competition use only on the actual advert , I got them second hand but they look just about brand new

Probably the same tyres, but not certified with E markings - may be there was a new approval spec Yoko didn't think was worth paying for (noise?).  No E mark, no usey.

Not the best idea anyway, unless it's solely a good weather toy.

I wouldn't use competition tyres on the roads

I don’t really want to either , I don’t think it would pass an mot if it has competition tires and seeing as the fine is £1000 a corner ( I think ) I’d rather not risk it

Well if you got them second hand, they may well be stock that still has the "E" marking. So you better check the tyre walls rather than the minispares website.

No E mark, no usey.

Not technically true - ne E mark no saley.... but there's no law to prevent use as long as they meet C&U regs for the application they are being used for.

From what I remember , for a tire to be for sd legal it must have passed various dot tests and consist of a tread of minimum thickness of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the tire and the ao48rs don’t have a continuous band .
