Yes it did

I'll be putting the bolt back in the same way then tidy up the subframe

Regarding the next step, removing the flywheel and clutch (verto), I have a minnispares puller

Item 1 of the instructions says to put the engine into TDC first

Having googled and read as much as i can understand, it seems that I can / should ignore any potentially misleading TDC marks on the flywheel and opt for this instead:

  • Remove rocker cover
  • Remove spark plugs
  • Turn the engine by hand in its normal direction until number one cylinder (far right as looking at the engine from the front) is at the top of its stroke. You may need to use a torch for this
  • Continue to turn and observe the piston moving downward.
  • If both inlet and exhaust valves stay closed during main movement of the piston going down, then this is the power stroke. This then means the piston position in step 3 was at TDC, approximately the start of the power stroke, and is therefore when the spark should occur.
  • However, if the inlet valve was opening, then this is the induction (intake stroke). You will then need to continue turning the engine until you see what was happening in step 3.

Is that right?

Any other / easier ways?

And is the minispares instruction correct?

Does it need to be at TDC to use the puller to get the flywheel off?

It is just needs to be at TDC so that the C-Washer is not facing down. If it faces down it might fall stopping the flywheel coming off.

Although my manual say to make sure the slot in the clutch hub is horizontal to stop c washer from falling.

I don't have a C washer so not done it for years.

Someone else with more experience will be along and correct me if I'm wrong.

Since you don't know if it was assembled with the C washer up or down at TDC, you could just turn it 90* from TDC, then whether up or down originally, it will now be sideways and unlikely to come off and jam things up.

Doing a clutch in the car is never a fun job, but I appreciate the limitations you're working under.
