If its from the bottom edge then it does indeed sound like the gasket...

This thread might explain the oil hole better

https://www.theminif...pot-what-is-it/

Thanks. A useful link. I'll look for the hole. I've removed the starter. It's dry in there. Rocker cover gasket also seems dry and not leaking down from there. Should that mysterious hole have a dangly pin in it as the earlier post or should it just be a hole? Is it intended to act as an overflow pipe to warn of oily issues unseen within?

I did this a few weeks back, it is possible but wasn't easy. In hindsight I would have taken the engine out.

Unecessary imo. I just undid the engine mount jacked the lump up a little then used a normal spanner.

Slim fingers help.

Leave the bolt at 7 o'clock out when reassembling as it's a pita

I mean the clutch housing between the block and wok, not just the wok itself.

Any tips, any things to look out for?

Forget the swear barrel and get a swear skip  :gimme:

I would just strip as much as you can around the engine, i had to get the clutch side raised as high as I could to enable me to get the housing out.

As someone else said remove the radiator and possibly the exhaust/manifold depending what setup you have. I never done this but it would definitely make it easier.

It was a real PITA though to do and as I say if I was to do it again I would pull the engine.

Thanks

Skip ordered

Exhaust manifold and all the gubbins at the back....already off and out

Radiator next

I don't have an engine hoist or a garage

Just me, the drive and the elements, so I'll battle on

Thanks again

It is do-able, just frustrating at times but you will get there.

The PITA wok bolt from hell just won't budge

All weekend

In all weathers

Including hail and snow

Bent spanners

Engine mounts disconnected, engine raised an inch or two

Access, just about

But it won't budge

All I've managed to do is round off the bolt head

I suppose the only option is now is to work out how to lift the engine out?

Any last words of wisdom for a tired old fool?

I’ve had great success with Crack-it spray on bolts that won’t budge...

If you are really stuck you can drill a hole large enough to get a socket extension bar through in the subframe/ inner wing dependent on how it aligns with the offending bolt, adjust the height of the engine to what suits best,  and use a socket to unscrew it. A decent 1/4 drive set should do the job or even a 3/8 set would not require too big a hole.
