I am stumped.
Thinking of moving out of London. :shy: :mmkay:

I was born in London and lived here all my life but I would move out tomorrow if I were not so old, London is a horrible place to live now ,it is crime ridden with the Police not even responding to crimes like burglary, any car related theft ,assault and many others, I just don't go out anymore its a fearful place to live now, I hate the place !
My grandson his girlfriend and baby can't even get a place to live because now you need to put a years rent up front before even looking for somewhere to live in London, its a joke and not a very funny one.

Allan

Allan that is awful. Move out! Age is just a number!

So true - we got burgled, police responded but said nothing will happen because they have other bigger crimes to tackle. We are actually thinking of moving away from London ..... somewhere far far from London. I think you may enjoy the quiet life, too. Good luck.

No doubt there will some older 'debadged' diesel cars running around the London area on numberplates and V5 logbook from a suitable petrol powered model next year.....if not already.

They are considering the same in Cambridge and its a complete joke. So much for the cost of living crisis.

If it goes ahead, you will have to pay to go to Addenbrookes hospital as it'll be inside the zone and then you have hospital parking on top just for good measure.

Found the below on the RAC site and it's a good guide on where not to move!

Where I live all you need is a old transit van and set of Romanian number plates ,they seem completely immune from any traffic laws in the UK!

As my car is over 40 years old and qualifies for Historic Tax status, I went on the TFL website to check if my car was exempt from the ULEZ charge, suprise suprise it says ULEZ needs to be paid. I e-mailed TFL and explained the situation, the response is below.

"Please note that all vehicles registered before 1 January 1973 and vehicles with a tax class of 'Historic vehicle' are exempt from paying the ULEZ. Please be advised that your vehicle is exempt from paying the ULEZ charge, because of its taxation class being a 'Historic vehicle' and not because it meets emission standards for ULEZ. As this is the case the ULEZ checker will flag it up as a payable vehicle, however when you attempt to pay the charge for the vehicle you will not be able to do so.

The above is quite funny as i have been looking at Euro 6 compliant cars and when i type in the reg they say the same as in ULEZ needs to be paid. These are all post Oct 2015 VAG cars. So i'm hoping its a similar thing, so i might end up emailing TFL and asking the same question but for Euro 6 spec cars.

Their ULEZ checker is a bit rubbish, mine's a bit older but meets the emissions standards  :gimme:

What I do find most odd is that my 2010 BMW is ULEZ exempt, whilst my wife's 2015 Fiesta Diesel is not, although the Fiesta has a zero level of road tax due to being low emission.

It's just a blooming rip-off and cash grab. I never go to London now as there is no real need to.

I live near Cambridge and people living inside the proposed restriction zone are most concerned about the effects it would have on their house values. Who is going to move into an area in which, whatever sort of car you drive, whenever you go out during the day you will pay a £5 charge to do so. It seems likely that businesses will move out as soon as they can when their current leases expire and many shoppers will not visit, especially older people who go there to shop and park so that they can get their purchases to their cars. Imagine buying a micro-wave cooker and having to carry it on the bus to the 'park & ride' - that won't happen. It will be 'welcome to ghost-town Cambridge'. But then, Cambs. County Council are not known for logical thought!

So how does cash clean the air?If the budget is relying on any of the charges raised then it is purely income generation.Do all the fines go to charities?Steve..

The money raised goes to TFL , of course it is still not enough for Khan he will always want more, and the million pound buses that TFL is buying need paying for ,doesn't improve the service of course or stop the scandalous increase with the fares or improve the standard of driving with most of the bus drivers.

The amount of money this could potentially generate is mind boggling.

Per day for every 100000 people affected generates £1,250,000. The new exapnded zone encompases 4 million Londoners alone and is 18 times the size of the original area!!!!

Now take into consideration all of us that travel in every day to work and it just leaps. So TFL need all of that then???

And to rub salt in the wounds, a driver of a Hybrid Ferrari pays nothing to enter the ULEZ even though running on batteries probably won't get him down Park Lane ... the battery range is paltry. So most of the time it will be running in "gas-guzzling" mode and chucking out emissions.

Well done TfL ... great logic there ...

I did a comparison to show my friends how crazy this new extended ULEZ is, as Kahn is chauffeured around in a 5 litre Range Rover

2017 Range Rover

Engine: 5 litre

Power: 543 BHP

Euro status: 6b

Co2 output: 229 g/km

Road Tax per year: £165

ULEZ: Exempt

1990 Mini Cooper

Engine: 1.3 litre

Power: 59 BHP

Euro status:: NA

Co2 output: Unofficially 164 g/km (found online not sure if correct)

Road Tax per year: £180

ULEZ: not exempt, have to pay £12.50 per day to enter
