I thought that ESVA was for privately imported mass manufacturer vehicles (the old grey imports). The theory being that they can be expected to live up to current emissions and safety standards better than a private or low volume builder but need to be brought into UK spec by fitting rear fog lamps and stuff. Maybe that's wrong.

Sorry, we're not meant to be talking about this anymore here are we.

Pete, thanks for a good explanation.

The sale of V5's:
I know a lot of it is done for people that want to gain tax free status, which is obviously illegal, but, a lot of it is also done to hide the ID of a stolen vehicle. I mean, talk about handing it to car thieves on a plate. If people involved in the mini scene are involved with selling V5's, they are not only helping to line car theives pockets, but also making ringing of stolen vehicles VERY easy. I do not see how any person that claims to be a Mini lover can do this. Sell a V5 for a mini to someone they don't know, then that buyer can go out and pinch a mini to suit the documents, it's immoral, never mind the legalities of it all. :-

Should we try and wrap this up then, since I think most members who are going to give their opinion have done so already.

I feel the general consensus is that TMF should forbid the sale of any ID (V5s, etc) by themselves, and any that are put up for sale are removed. When they are removed the offending member will have the warn level increased, more to just keep a record of the incident rather than as a punishment, so we can see if they keep doing it. Repeat offenders will be banned and reported to the DVLA.

However, cars that have dubious identity will be dealt with on a car by car basis, and if there is ANY doubt that the car could have been reshelled legally then it has to be left alone. Where a car has been clearly ringed or illegally reshelled the advert will be removed from TMF, the offender warned and a record taken by way of an increased warn level. Repeat offenders will be banned and reported to the DVLA.

Could I recommend we split the FOR SALE section into two, one being for complete minis and those considered projects ( ie a minumum of the Shell & other components and identification ) and another for parts and other parafanalia...

I believe that would make the above a LOT easier to enforce, and also alot clearer for those.... personally I like the idea of a gallery of minis for sale which have predetermined information requirements which relate to the vehicle, and will give the prospective buyers a enhanced guide to the vehicle condition..

I would be pleased to offer my services in building something like this, maybe not on a technical webby side, but as to the information which is likely to give the reader the best overall view... Also with the advent of the computerised MOT scheme, information is then available as to the prior condition of the vehicle.

Let's make TMF a Safe place to trade ( not that it isn't already )

Well personally, as I've seen very little comment or contact from the site admins...

So I think this was a totally pointless exercise..

So much for members being taken note off...
