thanks timothy :)

oh and the timing cover is off now too for i have a plan, i said i wasnt going to do much with the engine but ive had a bit of a change of heart. but im keeping it under my hat for the moment.

plus found a thread stripped out holding the tranfer case to the block, bum.

just wish i had more spare cash and time to get the project rolling quicker..

the 20 degree layback might be a problem, i cant reach the handbrake that well but i have a plan for that. plus i might need to switch to an internal mounted gear selector.

on the other hand the seat is suprisingly comfortable, sat in it for a good 30 mins the other night while browsing some parts catalogues with no numbness in site.

been pondering about selling my bolt in cage and getting an SD weld in jobbie?

the seat looks so uncomfortable lol But actually they aren't bad at all as I sat in a friends mini when he had it and had those seats.

As to the bracket situation I dont know for sure but I would imagine you'd have to bend it to the old shaped one :w00t:

small update, was in the garage for an hour or so yesterday..

cam and timing chain removed, both not going back in. the kent MD286 will probably be replaced by something like a 300 and the standard cast duplex chain will be replaced by a lightweight vernier.

next step is taking the pistons/rods and crank out for machining. then its a bare block which is going for a clean up and a few bits of work:

* chemical clean
* block drilled for 11 stud head
* threaded oil gallery plugs
* 4 bolt center main strap
* re-tap thread on block (above pic, middle bolt on the bottom of pic) whoever bolted the clutch housing on last must of stripped the threads out

still not entirely sure which direction to go with the head, will probably end up ebaying this one and getting something better, maybe from Longmans (if i sell my arse).

good news bad news situation..

good news, ive finally got the block completely stripped bar cam bearings which needs to be done professionally using specialist tools.

however.. there seems to be some serious scuffing down the skirt on a couple of pistons. so i need to check for excessive wear on the pistons and the bores otherwise its time for a rebore (up to 74mm 1400cc) and new pistons. joy.

otherwise, took the gearbox/diff casing apart (leaving gearset inside) and gave it a nice clean ready for a new coat of paint.

sorry about the pic quality, ive stopped taking the DSLR out in the garage.

ooh, questions.. where did they come from??!

miniman/nico - the only leccy fan i have is the late rover standard item?

mad4mins - as much as possible without taking huge chunks out of the body..
