Please tell me you are joking? your mini was looking so nice theres no need to ruin it by going for the 'rat look' which i feel is for people who cant do a car to a good quality properly but each to their own.........

yer i av sold them (give them away ) lol there not to my taste either its just that ive got alot of land so had space to burn them(my uncle lives in a bungalow in a quiet area) so i dont thing his neighbours would be to happy with more noise and fumes lol you dont think im really that bad ????? lol naaah my plans are set on mint two tone track car and thats what its staying as full stop.

did a bit more to day also, my dad and me decided as we are having a proper 10 point cage i can remove the rear bulkhead and replace it with either c/f or f/g so thins thing is going to be sooooo light :D

nice one fella, car sounds good. Just make sure you get all that rust sorted properly first time around and you won't get any nasty surprises in the future when the build's nearing completion. One thing i would say is that although you've thought about the insurance, the companys are well and truely wise about young drivers being named, and the premium is hardly anything lower than insuring it yourself, which is much better in the long run. You may want to ring up a few places pretending to be 17 and stating the car's mods to get a good idea. Specialist insurers are the only way. Try Brent Acre Insurance in Swansea, they are modified car insurers. Just thinking you may want to be putting money away so that when the time comes you will actually be able to drive it, even if the insurance is £2k, which i think it might be.

my turn not to sound rude.

never rely on any of the rust traetments out there, the only way is to cut out any rust and weld it up and also a quick sand blast to get rid of any surface stuff.

also are you sure about cutting out the rear bualkhead? this is an area of great stucture to the shell and should only be removed if you are going to semi space frame the shell, i think my cage i am getting is something stupid like a 40 point weld in, but i still wouldnt be happy without a baulkhead. also means the fuel tank would end up in the main cabin, not really what you want in a crash.

just something to think about.

no thought you had your head screwed on but was starting to wonder when i saw them pics :) glad youve kept the sense and are still going with the theme of the 'MAXIMUM ATTACK' feature car as it will look pretty damn smart

Just thinking you may want to be putting money away so that when the time comes you will actually be able to drive it, even if the insurance is £2k, which i think it might be.

coudnt aggree more i like others found out the hard way about insurance, i was under my mother for nearly two years totally legally as she genuinely did drive the car all the time and i just nipped work at night BUT its still screwed me over this year as she now has her own car so i came to insure mine on my own and with mods and even though im now 20 im paying £1350 for a grp 3 car with a 3500 excess so do be aware of this, its nice having a project but if you cant drive it its pointless, also the insurers were thinking in the next year or two of getting rid of the named driver insurance scheme to an extent so this may scupper that plan anyway

the only way is to cut out any rust and weld it up and also a quick sand blast to get rid of any surface stuff.

i still wouldnt be happy without a baulkhead. also means the fuel tank would end up in the main cabin, not really what you want in a crash.

again aggree the rust treatment stuff long term is useless, i see it as a temporary thing and NOT as a permanent repair the only way to get rid of rust is to cut it out and weld in new clean metal

also the bulkhead is one of the main parts of the cars you will notice that even miglia racers which have nearly a full frame which is near on space frame spec, they still retain the bulkhead because you are keeping the battery and fuel seperate from the driver which is important plus you are keeping strength when its questionble whether you could give the same strength back with a few roll cage bars which are designed NOT to absorb impact when the bulkhead IS

just a few of my oppinions anyway and good luck

sorry about the bad explanations yer i have decided to get the shell shot blasted first then remove and replace the panels then to remove any accunulated surface rust that will be done in the tank

also this is what i am doing with the rear b/head (these were taken at mini vs beetle this year sorry about pic quality but you get the idea i hope Posted Image

Posted Image

in this pic there is no floor but i Am having one of these i am also replacig the b/head with c/f or f/g then the cage
Posted Image

hope that explains it better and this is what my car will be doing (track/sprint/shows) so i will only need a day liscense and a under 10k miles a year on the road liscense

To be honest minimon i have never seen anything like that before untill i just saw them pics, one thing i will say though is that , that is a space frame style as you will notice the wheels and all suspension etc run off the frame not of the panel work like for instance if you take away your bulkhead you cant expect your stsupension etc top stay tight running off your rear arch attachments as they do now, you will basically need to do as done above and replace the arch mounts with attachments onto the frame

i will also say again although you will think im nagging :) that a car like that will have little impact absorbtion for comparison get an empty coke can and slam it against a desk edge you will notice it absorbs the pressure and crumples this is good as it deflects the energy away from you in a crash, now get a full coke can still sealed and slam it against the desk edge you will notice it bouches away and absorbs little if none of the impact so to speak

basically ONLY usefull as a race car NOT a sunday drivers car that you can thrash round a country lane etc In My Oppinion off course but good luck with it all :)

yer i understand completely where youre coming from and the cage will be incorperated into the wheelarches

(this is gonna in affect be a space frame car that WILL go on the roads just like any other spaced framed car will be)

im not saying much else on this but you will understand alot better when i do eventually fit the cage/space frame what ever you want to call it

thanks for the heads up though :)

the only reason im having a wheel arch is that i dont want spray flyin everywhere from the wheels

i think this project will be great when its done, personaly i wouldnt have cut so much out of the car.... like the bottom dash rail for insance... but everyone has their own taste.

im working on a 1971 mini at the moment and ive been wanting to make it a road going racer for ages, but ihave always thought about insurance and checked withmy insurance company before i have done anything!

keep up the good work, its great to see your dream come together!

i did a bit more today:

you know when in a mag it says wow this engine bay is sssooooo smooth well i think wow they are QUITE smooth then think how can i improve it so i decided the inner wing support panels ruin the engine bay smoothness alot so i constructed a new braket and had welded it on :alien: :ermm: so today ive learnt how to weld and werlded in the support bracket

Posted Image
thi is the complete one but all i did on the other side was remove the lod bracket and cut the bracket so that will get finished SOON
Posted Image
this is the unfinished side

also i think that the bmc and cmc ruin a smooth engine bay and i believe that some miglias run without them???? some how??

so if this is possible can someone point me in the direction of how to go about this please :errr:
and i set about removing some more things from my uncles bonnet which now looks like this with no inner frame and with some ventilation for his supercharger

P.S. thanks for all the possitive comments guys an gals its really appreciated
