just ordered a performance meter so i can store information like 0-60 1/4 mile times g-force and engine power and analyse the effectivness of mods to the car setup to get the best performance out of it.

i will be testing it in my red mini first
my panels and new tie rods arrived today too so i can get ready to weld

just under £200 including the VAT and post, its well smart it can tell you the power of your engine at the wheels accurate to within 2-3% once its set up it doesnt even need plugging in it just sits on a flat surface and away you go!

no it has a special chip that detects g force, then it calculates the speed and ditance etc from the data it collects on the chip ( i think)
it arrived today, i just had little play with it, you can do proper 1/4 mile runs with it, it test the reaction time and everything!
its cool!
its going to be super useful in the turbo mini

How can it test bhp at the wheels just from gravity triggered chip. How does it account for weight? It must have to be done on a dead flat surface, because you'd go faster down a hill.

how does it test reaction time? It can't see traffic lights.

you have to do a test on a flat road to find out the drag coeficient of the car (i think thats what it is anyway) and the rolling resistance, simple test though, you jst have to roll down from 60-55 in neutral and time how long it takes and then do the same from 15-10mph
then you have to program that and the weight of the vehicle in to the unit, it can then tell you the bhp at the wheels using a formula, there's more details on the website of how it works,
and yes it obviously has to be on a flat surface to be accurate but it does self sdjust to compensate for chandges in incline by a small amount , its primaraly for motrsport use, but theres a few long flat and straight roads in my area to test it on.

the reaction timer, just comes up on screen with ready then after 0.4seconds start will appear, once you exceed a preset g force (very low to sence your initial move) it cuts the timer. and begins you 1/4 mile time.
the unit is allegedly very accurate once configured, but obviously it is constrained when used on the public roads.

i lived in winchester until recently but my mum has sadly died this week so i am in the process of moving the lot out of winchester and to my dads house which believe or not is in ocean villiage so its on your doorstep.
there wont be any progress on the car until i've got a lockupsorted whic hopefully shouldnt be long,
once i've moved over you could come over and see the car if you want

got a small update, i'm going to start moving all my spare parts and tools from my mums to my dads house this week, so i can carry on with the engine work, i have a gear box rebuild kit so ican start on the box in the next couple of weeks. i 've also sorted a garage for the car so now i'll be able to work on it in the dry!
and i've been naught and changed the plan from a 998 turbo up to a 1098, the crank and pistons should arrive this week.
i figured the extra torque from the 1098 should give me a nice grunty engine
any way, i'll add some updates and pics as and when
