I'm not sure if anyone is really going to be that interested but....

I have recently contacted the makers of the DashDAQ (featured in last month’s Mini Mag) DashDAQ to see if they would support the MegaJolt ECU's.

For those who don't know what the DashDAQ is, it's basically a touch-screen controller that integrates with ECU's allowing you to manipulate the settings, run diagnostics and display real time info i.e. revs, speed etc....

My idea is to convert my Mini ignition to a MegaJolt setup and then use a DashDAQ to allow me to control the ignition maps and run data logging. The makers of the DashDAQ have suggested that they might be able to develop a driver that supports the MegaJolt.

Specialist Components sell the DashDAQ

Luke.

Now that does sound interesting! Keep us posted Luke! :(

been reading true this and trying to understand it from the first time round :)

stupid question but it will als work with twin carbs.......
anyone got any results cause i'm considering this or the 123 dizzy or an aldon one...

ive been looking on the site of trigger wheels and they say something of coil packs form the first generation or the second generation, the only difference would be the coil pack is a that smaller and the connection of the ingnition leads but what would i take first or second ?

but any suggestions on this ?

Yup, it'll work just fine with twin carbs. I'd say that if you go for a MAP setup (it uses a vacuum pipe off the inlet manifold) you would be fine (may need to have a T-piece connecting the two halves on the manifold. like I've done on my Weber manifold).

As for the coil packs, the later ones are a little neater, like a Zetec or Duratec engine, around a '98. They have a neat little bracket on them that mounts them on to the head. All you need to do is make sure that you have the right leads for the coilpack that you chose. I've gone for the earlier type, but I am considering switching to the later pack as it'll be easier to mount onto the inner wing.

i dont understand why you need to take 2 off a weber manifold? Surely one will do, the each choke should be running at the same pressure...

(thinking what to do about my manifold... think im just going to use the brake servo attachment i have on it, dont have the brake servo anymore, expensive maniflow weber manifold, dont want to drill lots of holes in it)

I believe the two sides can fluctuate slightly, I guess this would only be worsened by high duration cams? So to have two take off's giving you a balance just ensures the signals to the Megajolt unit are perfect.

Manifold pressure doesn't stay constant it pulses as the valves open 'n close. If you have a large volume inlet that all cylinders share the pulsing averages out. The link pipe and/or a small chamber to absorb any pressure pulsing is a good idea. Using the vac advance take off can also be inaccurate as it's placed so that the throttle disc isolates it from manifold vacuum to eliminate any advance when idling. Not a huge problem, as you'd set the 'jolt for little advance at idle speeds anyway, but you'd lose the ability to sense when your on overrun.

I wouldn't be surprised to see digidash features added to the next version of Megajolt. You can already run a Palm pilot off Megajolt.

Sounds a bit weird! First time I read that I thought, but a Palm Pilot has no engine!

Not much really >_<

It can run a realtime display just like a laptop but Megajolt currently only monitors revs and manifold pressure at best. I think it's an open source project so if you're a coding whizzkid you could add other features. I know there's some good freeware progs for Pocket PC's that you could use to make a touchscreen control panel and display the output from temp sensors etc.

There's defo an opportunity for someone to make themself some money if they can write a bit of a program. Sat Nav, digital display with data logging and an intelligent switch panel (through cheap infra red switches, or even blue tooth?) using existing hardware, I'd buy it.

Have a look on autosport labs for more info, don't think it has to be anything special, it would need a serial connection. Worth doing some research.

MAP gets my vote for Minis. TPS is good for approximating manifold pressure on more complex engines: V's, multiple carbs...
