re: practical classics.....it's the only mag i buy now
...so you won't be wanting me to bring the latest copies of MiniWorld and MiniMag for you to read on holiday as per usual then?
Can i just thank The Anorak and Jake Blues for listening to each other and offering different (though respectfull) opinion. You have set a fantastic debating example to us all without resorting to snipes and backstabbing so commonly seen of late.
I applaude you both.
What is right for the goose, is not necessarilly right for the gander.
Thank-you

(It is what mature, intelligent adults are able to do with ease though!)
What a load of Arse Gav, there's nothing more entertaining than a good cat fight.
Handbags at ten paces - no hair pulling, *Female doggy* I'll scratch yer eyes out
I'll leave that to others thanks.....
A final thought from me...(probably)..we have always have a stand at The Town & Country Show at Stoneleigh on the August Bank Holiday in the motoring section where we (all car marques) are all given a theme with big prizes on offer. Some years we have done well others not so well but it was always fun to entertain the paying public and show that being in a car club is not just for those with a disposition for hooded, zip-up rainwear or train-spotting but for ordinary people with a love for extra-ordinary cars. Last year was the last show and we pulled out all the stops....no theme just lots of cars, a photo history of the Mini and our club and no fancy dress...just club logo'd shirts. We had a great weekend, lots of interest and to top it we won first prize beating Mercedes, Aston, Jag and really old car Clubs. Our cars and members spoke for themselves.
In other words, dressing up is really only appropriate when the occasion demands and those occasions must include Riv Run & SMD where dressing up has become de rigeur and is an integral part of the event. The magazines will always use photos that show colour, fun and life to sell their mags and, I'm afraid to say, that a pic of someone looking serious stood next to an immaculately polishing car with a trophy is probably not as eye-catching as someone in fancy dress.
It is interesting to see people copying other ideas too...a few years ago at Bingley the theme was Monte Carlo (yawn) so we adapted it to Monte (sic) Python for a laugh...visitors loved it BMC totally didn't get it! A year later, another show, another club did the same and won first prize! Last year at Riv Run we got all dressed up in DJ and ballgowns....this year another club did the same! I loved the club that dressed up as bank robbers this year......made the night!
Now if you really want to get stared at, and have the bottle for it.....come to the Clubby Estate's Thong Run and go to the local Tesco in your thong to get the beer and burgers!
