Nicely put, Jake!! :)

actually no.
tell you what, you guys go and do your weekly shopping in fancy dress, now that's a boring thing you have to do, so have fun and go to tesco dressed as batman.

I have done frequently. :D Pirates is the best because you can use the trolleys as galleons! :shifty:
In the past couple of years at different parties I've been a silver alien, a Nazi dominatrix, a Bay City Rollers fan, the Venus de Milo, a peacock butterfly & a stag beetle.

I find it quite sad that people want to complain about others having fun in a harmless manner like this....and it always seems to be blokes who do it, too?

Jake blues, don't worry about the "prat" after all I'm giving as good as I'm getting.

i guess this is the type of subject where its hard to see the other side of things so lets try...

OK, you guys like dressing up, you like your minis, you have your friends (and yes, i do have some, just not many) so why not combine all these things and have a good time ??

on the other side of the fence, we don't like dressing up (not as outgoing and confident as you lot), our interest in minis i more directed to the history and heritage of the car (which is worth getting defensive about, i trust you people fully understand the history of the mini ?) and the enjoyment we have with our friends is on a slightly lower key.

so there's nothing wrong with either side of the fence, were all respectful and worthy people (just some are prats and some are wa.... )

the trouble comes when the fancy dress side of things "seems" to be getting more column space than the heritage. lets not forget that mini-world stick all of their standard or non modified cars to the back of the magazine.
this gets the anoraks annoyed, as if their being pushed to the back.
i don't like things that give the impression that minis are just about the themes and the dressing up, i don't want the general public to get the idea that it's just about that.
the truth is, people from the outside, people from other car clubs, just don't get it. they have never seen anything like it.

OK, there is room for both sides but it has to be even. the issue i was referring to in my letter was crammed full of fancy dress coverage, it even had a special pull out (which was handy actually as i would have pulled it out anyway).
i was making a point to the staff of mini-world to keep things balanced.

oh yes, just to confirm, when i refer to themed cars i don't mean cars that have been painted to look like the general lee or the a team van, i mean cars that have giant cardboard sunglasses on their bonnets or are dressed up to look like bumper cars.
i have nothing against cars like Jake blues' estate/van.

also, i don't argue, i state my point and listen to others.

and yes, i admit, i have been known to go to the extreme, to make my point, but that's me. if you know me well enough you know its tongue in cheek

If thats what this is about, don't buy miniworld  I don't buy for that exact reason - too many nasty bodykits and cars with an equal wheel:exhaust ratio. I also don't like the fact that they have about 6 pages at the back for the classics - most of the time they're the best cars in the mag! I much prefer minimag.

Well it would make sense for the mags to cater for different parts of the market. also some good marketing psychology - it's the extrovert fancy dress types who are more likely to make an impulse purchase based on the bright pages. Introvert classic buffs will probably have a spreadsheet to evaluate the occurence of the words classic and original in the whole publication before committing to a purchase.

The mini magazines are going to print what sells copy, which is dictated by trend...

If you want heritage, buy Pratical Classic...

I think the point you were making was overly subtle?! As i couldn't see it in your letter anywhere. You may have to be a tad more blunt when you're provoking a response! Er.. i mean, making you're points...

I'll try harder next time

thinking about the majority / minority thing... do you really think that the majority of people choose to side with the dressing up ???

i actually think the vast majority are not bothered either way, and that most of the people that are against it just don't get as wound up is i do and those that are for it seem to get in the mags, therefore it seems like the majority are supporting it.

i mean, come on, do you really expect no one to comment on it.

PS: still cant see the direct link between dressing up as superheroes and the mini :o if it was dressing up in context, i could understand it.

Is Jake Blues the black policeish van?

Erm well, sort of..the car is called Jake and it's based on a Mount Prospect American Police car as used by Jake and Elwood Blues as their BluesMobile in the iconic (there's that word again!) film, The Blues Brothers....a MiniBluesMobile......I'm Jake Blues (well on here anyway) everywhere else I use the moniker MiniJakeBlues.....................................Oh and it's a Clubby ESTATE not a van as it has rear windows and a back seat!

I think the thing that Anorak might have missed is that the Riv Run is MiniWorld's biggest show of the year (yes, yes.......I know you organise it Cornish MiniCLub  ) and therefore they are bound to give it HUGE coverage before and after the event. (Actually I am quite proud to have been in the last three pullouts for this show as Grease, then Pirates and this year Village People!)

I now have a pile of MiniWorlds and MiniMags that have either my pic or my good lady (TC) and our club from the last five years....I get a buzz from that and the kids at my schools love seeing me in there too!

I'm sure you do get a kick from being in mini world, had my pic in there a few times as well but (and don't take this the wrong way, as i actually like the way you present your side of the argument, and respect you for it) don't you think there are hundreds of people out there who want their turn in the mag ??
the kind of people who go around shows jumping in front of cameras just at the chance of getting on those pages (he he, just like the people in the back of the news reports who wave at the camera).

with the greatest respect in the world,(edit: some) people do get fed up of seeing the same cars and faces in there over and over again, i mean how many times do we need to see the mini bandits club stand ??

I have, in front of me two well known mini mags; "mini Magazine" and "MiniWorld", and it seems to me that MW looks to be prone to a bit of dressing up. Whereas MM seems a lot more inclined to feature a wider variety of motors (including aussie Nota Fang (mini derivative developed in the 60's)). Saying this, i will add that, i would rather see others enjoying their mini obsession in their own special way (be it dressing up, or maticulously arranging black 'nd whites on their parcel shelf 5 day before the show!), after all minis and mini drivers are all supposed to be a bit loony aren't they?? They are aren't they....

But yes, i do think the majority of people who care enough to side with one of the two sides, they side with the 'dresser uppers'. Simply because the mag wouldn't have it all over it's pages if the majority didn't want it there. these magazine marketing bods don't 'alf do their homework!

i mean, come on, do you really expect no one to comment on it.

I think that you've answered this one. :o

PS: still cant see the direct link between dressing up as superheroes and the mini :- if it was dressing up in context, i could understand it.

different peoples perceptions of fun.... Like someone said before i shouldn't let it bother you so much, it seems a tad tedeous to me!?

i have been known to dress up on occaision...it's usually at some point during the riviera run.....why? it's the first big show of the season it's a bloody long way, and my first holiday of the year, so it's a celebration.

]the winter warmer. Southern mini days and other big shows usually have a fancy dress theme, which could explain it.

and i totally agree with guessworks re: practical classics.....it's the only mag i buy now
