i cant believe you have sprayed your car with cans. it looks awesome. how many cans did you use? how long on the prep did you spend?
many thanks Robert.
Due to the state of the paint work already on it when i bought it(number of different paint bases on it) I had a lot of work to do to get it down to bare metal almose. So that took me a couple of weeks to get the paint off and flat! Then the spraying didn't take too long. Put a good thick coat of primer on it, left it for 24 hours, then used a 800 grit wet and dry (wet) to smooth over the primer. Left it another 24 hours before wiping away all the dry excess. Then put on the main colour in thin layers untill the car was covered well. (put a thin layer on when it is tacky, or as id found id gone round the car, go back to where you first started and put another layer on and so on) Then left that for a week. Then i used 1500 grit wet and dry (wet) to get rid of any imperfections. Left it for 24 hours and then removed the dry excess. Then i put on a coat of lacquer, not too thick and left it for 24hours. The reason i dont put on a thick layer of lacquer is simply because, with having to do all the brake pipes, if you get fluid onto the paint it will strip it straight to bare metal, also when changing the door glass you can catch the paint work (which i did yeaterday) So there could be the odd bit of paint needing to be put back on. Then it can have its final final coat of lacquer, but you need to cover all windows wipers lights etc.etc.
And that is how i did it all! Simple but takes time!
In total i spent £10 on the primer, i used primer from poundland as i personally think it is great. I've got a better finish with them than with the expensive primer for the roof! So 10 cans of primer, but i have got some left.
I then used a Car Plan paint which costs £5.49 a can. In total ive used 10 cans and have 3 spare for any touches that might need finishing after the works been done (you never know how you might nock it!)
The i used an expensive lacquer from Halfords. So far used 5 Large cans at bout £15 a can. But have another 5 cans left for its final lacquer after any nocks have been fixed!
