I'd like to know how long ago the website was updated. I've heard differing views on how many products are coming out of Jack Knight at the moment.

Not in the same way the Mini engine and box do. Anything can be made to fit if enough is spent on it but it would not be a direct swap.

minispeed advertise them in miniworld mag

I believe all they are currently advertising is a 5 speed dog box, they don't say what make it is but it isn't their own. I suspect it's the KAD box because as I said I don't think JKD will deal with them. I've listed the people who actually manufacture 5 speed boxes.

Which 6 speed do you mean sold on E-bay? You describe it as though it were a 1 off but it was a properly manufactured product line from JKD.

Id recon the JKD 5 speed in the linky anove is NEW, as they never did a five speed that fitted in the space of the original four. KAD was the only one to do that, from the very start!!

I am tempted ;D

Mini Speed? Errrm, no. They haven't got the wherewithall to make one themselves and after recent events I very much doubt they'll be stocking Jack Knight products again.

Mini Spares are the only people making a 5 speed helical synchromesh box now. Mini Sport and JKD also made them in the past but not any more, you may find second hand ones though. The JKD box was the best by far and was fitted by John Cooper Garages to their Cooper Sport 5 and very nearly fitted to every ERA Turbo until Rover refused to warranty the car if it was fitted (ERA Turbos were supposed to be fully warrantied as they were available from all Rover dealers unlike the Cooper conversion).

Mini Spares also do a straight cut synchro version.
If you want a straight cut dog box you can get a KAD one which is really expensive but the only 5 speed still available with a direct top gear.
JKD still do 5 speed straight cut dog boxes too I believe but I think they have now dropped the 6 speed.
I think that's all of the options.

Swift Tune build a bog box that they sell as their own which was actually designed and first produced by Quaife about 4 years earlier. If it's not the same it's suspiciously similar. And is only 4 speed.

Swiftune box it is considered unbreakable, well, Im sure either Fast Carl or Jim Lyons will manage to brake one with their turbo motors, they are only designed for 170bhp

Only five speed boxes to fit the gear set in the original space, is this JKD one and the one KAD have been producing since its inception

Someone should add that there is little to no point for most situations.

Just to show my ignorance WHY?

yeh would like to know this too, surely because of different gear ratio tyou would get better acel and better top end becasue of the 5th gear, and a low revving cruise speed on the motorway seeing as i do 30miles a day motorway driving for work in a mini reving to 4k isnt exactly quiet thought it would be a good idea.

The most important thing is to have the correct final drive ratio so your mini runs in the right rev range to suit the engine and the type of driving you do.

A mini is a dainty little thing so 4 gears to it are just as much use as 5 or 6 on some lumbering heavyweight. If you spent the same £1500 on improving the engine and maybe a close ratio 4 speed box you'd find it hard enough swapping cogs as it gained speed when you pushed the go pedal in to the carpet in any case.

5 cogs would be nice but the Min doesn't suffer from a lack of an extra one as much as motoring journalists would have you believe.
