use an epilator. i had my leg hair ripped out with one of those things for charity in august and it has just started to grow back. it was pretty painful but then the person who was using the epilator took all the safety guards off it...

Why do you have to be clean shaven for work big gav? Health & Safety reasons or just general appearance?

I used to work at Staples (the office superstore) and I had red highlights in my hair and I wasn't allowed to keep them!!

The more you shave the more it does grow and quicker.

This is really a myth that a lot of people believe. Cutting or shaving your hair will not make it grow faster or thicker. The width of your hair shaft is genetically determined, as is the length of your anagen, or hair growth cycle, and the only way to affect this is through hormone treatment. If you want to know more: sciencey stuff

My BF hasn't had a smooth face since April 2004 :P He gets bad rashes when he shaves so he's always got a slightly beardy look, he just trims it once a week.

When he starts his grad job for Accenture on Jan he will trim it more often but they don't expect him to have a smooth face presumably... he got through 3 tough interview stages with the beard so it seems they're not bothered!

I just "wet" shave... but more often than not, I actually shave dry :ermm:

I must just have good skin because I don't get any irritation *shrugs* >_< *slightly smug* lol

oh sod off! i always itch whether i shave or not! my friend hates me because i can grow a "proper" beard in a couple of days, whereas he can only manage a dirty mark which if left stops growing after a few days. and he calls me lucky! i blunt razors in 1 sitting normally!

I blunt razors pretty quickly - probably because I don't soften the hair before shaving or summats... But I'm not that bothered lol

Fuzz isn't a bad thing, most girls prefer a guy to be a bit manly, don't they? I know I do....

i shave once a week at the most, and not because i dont need to >_<

i also find shaving very painful and i only shave when the hairs start to get itchy under my chin (about once a week) but unfortunately i have the kind of face that looks about 12 when clean shaven so throughout the week i go through the various stages of the transformation that happened in teen wolf

as i have an incredibly low patience level i couldn't be bothered with all that soften with a towel stuff. i went through the stage of trimming it with a beard trimmer so i had "designer stubble" but even this was too much like hard work >_<

My rules for shaving:

Always prep yer face with face wash and get it nice and hot (best to shave after bath or shower, steamier the better),
DON'T use multi-million bladed razors, I stick with Gillete excel ones (two blades) after trying EVERYTHING else, they're the best for me,
Always use hot water, something like King Of Shaves gel,
If yer razor's blunt, chuck it!
Always rinse yer face with cold water after a shave,
Don't use after shave if you've got sensitive skin, actually, don't use it at all. If you want to smell nice, use EDT! >_<
If you need to, once you've rinsed yer face and it's cooled off, use an after-shave moisturising cream, from the likes of KOS.

Don't shave too often! If you can get away not shaving every day at the same time, try to avoid it. I don't have to shave everyday, I used to, but now I don't care if I'm a big furry bear, neither does anyone at work. My facial hair is really quite blonde so it's not that noticable. Aaaaand, give yer face a break at the weekends, if you really have to shave every week day, keep your fuzz for the weekend! >_<

Ok, seen as I've read through this thread an nobody has mentioned this (as far as I can see).....

If you're having real problems with shaving rash, it's more than likely down to in-growing hairs, where the hair follicle has become inflamed, probably because at some point the razor has nicked the top of the skin off the follicle while shaving and bacteria gets inside.

Once the hair is in-growing the only answer is to try to hook it out, not pluck it though, or the problem will only continue when the new hair grows.

Get a good quality old fashioned hog hair shaving brush...... Use a very hot flannel on your face to open the pores, then work in whatever shaving foam, cream or soap you choose, a sensitive skin KOS is probably best here, but it actually makes little difference to your skin at this stage. The brush hooks out the tiniest in growing hairs from under the soft skin surface and allows you to shave properly.

Use a sharp razor, apparently the new fusion things really do work, as the vibrations encourage the hairs to come out from under the skin. Shave in the direction of the hairs, rinse with cold water and moisturise. Either with a perfume free product or something antibacterial.

It sounds long winded, but the brush is the important bit here, and also make sure you never press hard when shaving, just whip the top of the hairs off, never try to get as much as possible, that's where skin damage starts!

If it's really bad, then use the shaving brush a couple of times a day, but don't actually shave the worst area until the inflamation has gone down a bit.

A friend of mine is a dermatologist and has recently been helping my other half with this exact problem..... His was very severe, but this seems to be doing the trick now! Hope it helps..... >_<

Well i have to shave every day, my facial hair grows quickly as i'm all manly and whatnot.

I now shave whilst im in the shower, with Gilette sensative shower gel (hmm all manly comment still applies, honest!) as I have sensative skin.

Seems to do the trick and I dont get nasty rash like I have on the odd occasion.

Also found that body shop after shave soothing cream is rather good, but use it only when skin is dry.
