£2500 for an 1275 +60 engine in part form?

My thoughts exactly!! I can bought an integra type r (b18c5) in bits and had it built and fitted, and the whole lot cost me £2600....

Anyways, as others have said, You may feel aggreived by what's happened, but if you want any form of warranty, written or implied, you have to get the engine supplied built and fitted by the same people, otherwise ther will always be doubt about where the blame lies and if the other party has a half decent lawyer, they'll make a mockery of you in court, so the legal route is out I reckon!!

Tell you what...i think it's time i took a break from the forum. i will come back in a couple of months to see if things have changed. i really disagree with some of the comments on here, and really think you need to be very careful about what maybe taken as libelous comments, relating to peoples livelihoods, and do not think it is the place for a bunch of amateurs (me included) to discuss companies in this manner. we are not watch dog and we certainley are not nicky campbell.

but we are allowed our own opinions.

i agree with some comments but in the main the post was made for advice and to "possibly" highlight issues with service/ attitude of a supplier.

it is in the interests of the members to know how some people are being treated - but the theory "buyer beware" always applies.

i mean if my uncle fits an engine that a customer supplies he does not offer a warranty on the engine. however if HE fits a clutch and that fails then he accepts the responsibility.

Talk to Jonspeed and ask what opions you have. at the end of the day it sounds like a cocktail of events and mistakes on both parts.

oh and did i mention that im a senior engineer???

Im sorry but what does that have to do with anything?

I tried to stay out of this topic as I don't agree with abusing a company on the net, also ive had nothing but help from Jonspeed even if all it was, was a phone call for some advice they have been willing to give it for Free....I don't know to many places like that. (Although admitedly there are more in the mini community than elsewhere.) Ok ive never bought an engine from them but I have been there many times to get mine tuned, the car has come back everytime with nothing wrong with it an it running nicely after I myself had changed certain parts.

It sounds more like there was a problem with the installation of said engine and it was nothing to do with Jonspeed, an considering the offer than they made to rectify the fault I commend them for it. They went out of there way for you when the liabilty was not with them. So you go slagging them off on a WorldWide Forum.

edit: I wish I would check my post before I press enter meant Jonspeed  :shifty:

Janspeed are a different company to Jonspeed!!

I think we've had the story from both sides now, and I don't think its helping that every person and their dog is now adding their comments.

I'll close the topic for now, if there are any updates to the situation please let me know and I'll add them.

If anyone else has substantiated comments to make on Jonspeed, or any company please start your own topic, or even better, add them to this topic, or this one if its a garage.

Update from Almichie:

In that jonspeed have contacted me and we have agreed and amicable soulution to the problems. They are going to carry out the repairs to the engine, a crank re-grind and new shells and re build the engine complete with box and head and run the engine in a a dyno. they will then give the engine back to me in a properly complete and running setup ready for fitting to my car.

I am pleased that i have had this result and dont think this would have happened if i hadn't brought this problem to the forum, and thank the admin and administrators for putting up with posts from eveyone!! i hope that everyone gets some use of this thread...

as for the engine in its entire state, a complete kit, engine, box, stg3 head and supercharger kit was bought from jonspeed at the same time totalling just short of £3000 to clear things up for people.

I now consider this well and truly closed! :withstupid:

(Sorry Jammy!)

Message from Carl:

I have considered what has been said on this Forum, I have also considered how I would feel having spent £3k and the engine not doing more than 900 miles. As we didn't build it, I couldn't accept responsibilty for the assembling of the complete engine. To sort the problem out and so I am able to know the standard of work carried out on the engine, I am going to put the engine right, completely free of labour, the only thing the customer will need to pay for is; the crank re-grind, set of bearing shells and oil pump. This has been agreed by the customer and I hope that this shows my commitment as Mini specialists and, as a Mini fan to our very many and valued customers.
