I doubt it's that bad, sounds like one of those little leccy faults that create huge problems. I'd guess he's losing all leccy power intermittently, if it also effects your headlights I'd have a good look at the solenoid connections, especially if he has a pre engaged starter (a bit exposed to sogginess sat behind the grill). Your engine earthing strap is another possibility. That would tie in with tinkering with his exhaust and the sticky throttle - both become impromptu earths if the intended strap ain't doing its job.

To sort his leaky pipe, poke a thin pointy thing into the end of the slot to make sure the inner pipe is actually far enough in to the join. If it is, a few wraps of bacofoil round the inner may improve the seal & a sliced up beer can wrapped round the outside is sometimes effective too.

and...

If someone told you his alternator was banjaxed 'because the iggy warning light came on that too would be caused by an intermittent short or open circuit it'd be just the same as switching the ignition off 'n back on.

mike's got an alternator in the garage, that i'm allowed to swipe!

(Fankooo :dontgetit:)

So, I'll change that... if I can work out how! :techsupport:

Also reckons that I've probably blown some fuses somewhere, too

The exhaust i just patched for yesterday, really... but am going to get some of that exhaust bandage stuff, just so that he'll be OK for the time being, till I can get the split welded up.

know sounds daft but would check the fan belt as if loose could slip when wet they do not always sqeal

also if exhaust moved at the y pipe might just be woth checking the subframe and engine mounts as if to much movement will work the exhaust loose as the exhaust cant move that much

best solution is to use the later exhaust hangers of injection cars as allow the exhaust to move more freely

had a friends daughter how keep lossing the exausht ever few weeks

put it on the later rubbers and it cured the problem

the fan belt was squealing, but i just thought that because it was raining, it'd do that anyway?

But I'll check that, see if it's OK.

Ah, thank you for that stiggy...

Do they just bolt on in the same place and in the same way, or do I need to modify it in some way to fit?

he's home!

went out to go get him with the expectation of towing/RAC...

but thought i'd try him, see if he started.

re-connected the battery, turned the key and VROOOM! Started first time! :dontgetit:

So I drove him home...

But whenever I turned the wipers on, he'd start to judder.... so i guess with the alternator being crappy, having the lights, radio, heater and wipers on, last night.. really didn't help!

Sounds miserable.

Nah, I didn't have to walk, Juju... luckily!

I had very little battery power in my phone, so I managed to ring and let the 'rents know where I was, and Dad came and picked me up. Then my phone died, so I was hoping he would find me OK! :ermm:

i'm still not decided what to do with him :)

I've still got my Fiat here, taxed and MOTd... so I'm tempted to get that insured. I'd then put Reggie away for a month or two, til the weather improves. It'll give me time to get things sorted on him, without having to make sure he's OK for the next day (as he's the only car i've got on the road at the mo).

I've gotta have a word with my Nan, but she's got an empty garage at her house.... so hopefully i'll be able to put a bit of money her way and get him inside.

I dunno...

Help!

I'd give Reggie a rest for the winter, then. Let him hibernate & play in your fiat until he wants to come out & play again.

It'd be a good excuse to go & see your Nan regularly too!! If she's anything like Mr Juju's there'll be tea & cakes a plenty....mmmmmm cakes, minis & Grannies......there's nothing more comforting... :ermm:

hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

my financial situation's just changed somewhat.... :ermm:

I'm thinking...

the paint on the seams under the headlights has cracked, which is causing water to get in. so i've got lickle lines of rusty coloured water dripping every now and then :dontgetit:

So once I get a job, I think I'll put him into a bodyshop. Get the seams done and the tiny bit on the front panel...

Then put him away for a bit... because he'll then be perfect, ready for the summer shows :)

I've been trying to work out ALL day what I want to do with him and I still don't know!

I have a question though.

If I take him off the road after Bingley and get his front panel sorted, I'll then bring him back out in April/May time. However...

He's going to a rolling road session on the 27th, and I was thinking about getting him all sorted and timed properly etc. But would that be pointless if he's going to be stored for a couple of months? Or does it not matter?

:(

Doesn't matter,

Just make sure he's in tip top knick mechanically before he hops on the rollers it would be a waste of money if you had to replace components a few months down the line.
