Hey.

Well the Malvern weekend proved to be an absolute blinder, even more so when I got offered an engine.

Was with my club, and I happen to of got talking to someone about there Mini, and was asking for advice. When I managed to touch the subject of "other" engines.

Anyways, to cut the story down a bit, this chap has a written off Civic Type R in his lockup, and asked if I wanted anything off it... >_<

The details of the car - 30k from new, 2 owners, genuine Type R engine (not a clue on CC size) it had a lorry go up its arse, so its now a Shorty Civic...
Just wondering what sort of price these sort of engines go for...

I have the opertunity to strip what I need/want off it, what else should I try and get along with the engine and gearbox?

Also, what sort of power do these things give, I would imagine its quite high? I know they rev to something like 8000....

Any advice is welcome ;D

Mart.

They go for quite a bit more than the ztec engines. The frames for it are more too I think. I'd get as much out as you can. Engine, gearbox, loom, ecu. Also maybe seats that you can sell or fit. Ebay what you don't need.

Edit - dam it beaten by bungle. Just >_<

Well, when I say engine, I mean almost everything I need to run it properly.
The chap said if I give him a hand with his Mini, I can have the engine, gearbox, ECU, wiring, all acilleries (how ever its spelt), frame, brakes, rad etc etc etc for £600.

I know colin an aquaintance of ours with a 2003 r type mini paid £1900 and the car it came from was burnt out!

Ive rang a few places to weigh up cost and the best ive found with low miles and complete was £3000, from a breakers in lincoln, most quotes were about £4000 ! these are clearly not cheap engines!
theres a few on ebay £1000- 2500+ for example 270191067677 and P&L's who will convert the car with your honda engine for i think it was £6000 !!!!!! what a bargain! edit: NOT!

as long as its an actual R type yep, im not an expert though by any means and i could not even imagine what to tell you to look for, all i know is... we looked into it as a future project and we can expect to part with at least 5 grand just for the basics.
GO FOR IT!

Miss naughty.

If I got the engine, I wouldn't pay anyone to put it into the Mini.
£6000-£10000 to pay someone else to do the work, is not a project really...

Plus, I think frames are only £800 these days from 16vminishop, so works out cheaper :)

Is it worth the gamble of a poke about for £600?

If its on 30K and its definitely a Type-R (and not a Type-S) then I would almost certainly say its going to be a 2001 onwards Civic EP3 with a K20A lump.

Basically, 1998cc, 197bhp @ 7400rpm, 196nm @ 5900rpm (in a nutshell). 6 speed box, LSD.

The only reason I say that it would be that engine is because the early Type-R's (EK9's) were never sold in the UK, only as imports, so they're pretty rare. Plus the mileage would say its an EP3 (not an EK9!).

If you can get the engine and box with all wiring etc (and all those other bits you mention) for £600 then I would be round there now getting it! That is absolute :) bargain and you'd probably get 4 or 5 times that if you sold it (as imabitnaughtyxx says - they're bloody expensive), especially if its in good nick and as you describe!

Have a look on Civic Type R for some more info dude.

From a scrap yard everything would probably cost you about £2k.

As you described i reckon it would be a EP3 civic with a K20 engine. (like what they use in the Zcar vtec conversions) Fwd there are no 'off the shelf' subframes avalible in the uk, i think there is one in the US and watsons have done a couple one off type conversions with this engine.

I would say get everything you need, then go to Zcars! :)

I can most certainly garentee its a Type R.

I've not heard it running yet, but the chap said he can see if it still starts. It was decleared off the road about 3 months ago, and its sat in his lockup since. He's paid the insirance to keep it, as he also wanted to put the engine into his Mini, but jst hasn't got the time, and now the winter is here, hes wants rid to put his pride n joy in the garage :)

So its a worthy buy to get then for £600?

Any ideas on cost of a FWD frame?
or would it be easier to go RWD with these engines?
