Its a good engine, no doubt about it. When i read the spec i was a little disapointed by the spec of the bottom end (ie crank/rods) for such a powerful engine, but it will cope. I suppose the rods on mine arn't that much better.

The subby looks cool, but a little overcomplicated.

Ive just dropped my mini off to tupmans mini's with my new subframe, ie dan websters Z-cars one. Got a morspeed k conversion going in, but wont have quite so much oomph, as i have a short stroke engine.

Innocenti rods
MED crank - fully worked
4 bolt centre main
vp2 bearings
ARP bolts
fully balanced to the nth degree

Sounds fine to me.

I dont think the subby is over complicated at all, fits with all standard metal work in place and I cant wait to weigh it! Yes there are a couple of non standard mounting points but not complicated at all IMO

Picking it up Sunday, happy days!

Nothing wrong with a fully worked standard crank. they currently support 250bhp in a turbo motor, and many of the Miglia racers use these cranks up to 9000rpm

Rods are important on a high rev engine, and the inocenti rods are said to be the best of the factory production rods, more than up to the job.

Any old rod is good for a high power turbo motor though. Its the revs that kill the rods and their bolts.

A four bolt main cap and ARP bolts are the belt and braces to hold it all together at high revs

not wanting to wii on anyones bonfire but the Guy from SC is well known on the circuit as being full of *swear word removed".

before you are more than a few lines into his ad he's already spewing it....

the worlds first 1380cc K 16v engine
- NO, definitely not - there were at least 20 produced all over the world well before he ripped off a Morspeed kit and called it his own.

I've talked to him at the shows and its clear that he has little or no real engineering knowledge or practical skills and relies entirely on those around him for their skills, knowledge and history.

A professional middleman exploiting the current desires for 16V engines perhaps, but i would be very wary of buying anything off him that hasn't had exhaustive testing.

Perhaps you are getting confused with 'SC Parts'? no?

^^^^Clearly you were not speaking to the same JohnK I have then!!!

I have experianced work by both companies and there is only one company I'd go back to...

You maybe right Sprocket. SC Parts are con artists, luckily I haven't heard any complaints about them recently, so they've either ceased trading (YIPEE), or got their act together. Last year there were tonnes of complaints!!

delete this if I'm talking out of my arse, but i was under the impression Specialist Components, ie. JohnK supplied some of the parts to Morspeed for the twinky conversion.

back on topic; hate you Udo. hope you enjoy it mate.

Not trying to stir debate too much, but i noticed this on the morspeed website the other day:

"Please also take into consideration that Morspeed has been developing this conversion since march 2006 and were the first company to place into production a DIY conversion kit, the first of which was sold to John Kimmins who is now known as Specialist components, we were also the first company to build a complete 16v twincam 'K' engine and have it running successfully with no problems. This engine is still in Germany being used 16 months later as a daily driver."

I personally take that with a pince of salt, as i thought someone in Australia was the first to do the conversion succesfully (although that may be a person rather than company).

I take back some of my earlier comments, i think i was a bit grumpy and had just woken up.

The engine will be good, didn't realise the bottom end was quite that good. When i said the frame looked over complicaated, that literally what i meant! LOOKED over complicated. Knowing Carls work, it is an impressive bit of kit indeed. Definately a bargain anyway.

hmmm, has anyone actually ever seen one of Morspeeds 16v engines running??

IMO if anyone is full of it it's Simon from morspeed. he promised me and engine a few years back, he didn't pull his finger out so I did it myself (at the time SC didn't have there kit on the market)

Morspeed promised my mate a miglia engine a few years back, parts were given to Simon at morspeed, flywheel, rods crank etc. After around 2 years of waiting for the engine my mate asked for his parts back, another year on from that date and load of parts turn up, not the high spec miglia items given to him. He is still waiting for his omega pistons which were brand new in a box.

I've no problems with SC, but I'd rather burn my money than deal with Morspeed.
