Lower shocks are needed if dropping 1" lower than standard...
If using the 2 finger rule, if your thinking of have alot of weight or people in the back, you may want to harden the shocks right up to minimalise movement, but then this ruins the handling, and feel of the car, are the arse will be rock solid!
Obv, its nice and easy to adjust them back, but with fully hardened rear shocks, you may find the Mini will "skip" at the rear.

I have only had three other people in the car once since I bought it, I very rarely have more than one passenger in the car anyway.

Just go for it and if too many people ask for lifts, either put the thin people in the back or tell them you can't.
My Mini has no rear seat belts, so when I changed the seat covers I didn't even screw the rear bench back on it's just wedged. More than one person wants a lift, they can thumb it

Then it doesn't really matter how low it is
Just go for it and if too many people ask for lifts, either put the thin people in the back or tell them you can't.
I'll just tell them to *yellow human water* off!

I don't have enough friends to fill up the Mini anyway!

Still planning on getting some GAZ lowered shock absorbers (see Technical and Problems) and a centre console (only now I've decided to buy a cheap one and add air vents and a cigerette lighter myself).
Watch this space...

Especially once they've been covered in mud!

Oh what fun it was taking out the front Smootha Ride cones. Drivers side one had a stripped thread. Passengers side one, the cone compressor got stuck in the thread and then the middle section seperated (the tool has two parts to it, a top thread and a bottom thread).
Still got there in the end, after alot of swearing and dispair. The new shocks are brillant, nice and firm but not uncomfortable. Still need to do a little more adjusting to get it right, but it's driveable. The front sits a little too low now, I think the exhaust is catching some of the bumps in the road. Like I said, I'll need to have a play around with the shocks and the adjusta rides to get it all good.

i can't beleive you bought that stupid smootha ride thing.
Why?

I'm sure you can't scarpe ur zorst on the ground at the front, its tucked up into the undercarrage
I think either the middle box or cat is catching on the bumps, not sure to be honest.
