i have tryed on a budget... they are good engines and the potental for power is prity much limitless....
look up stuart mead. he has the fastest quartermile mini in the world. and he usues a 2.1 zetec turbo with nitrous.
i used the subframe and made a space frame around that. i will get some updated pictures soon.

dont get a diesel... tut tut.... for even thinking! are you trying offset some carbon or something?
people will give you aload of stick for using ford but the zetec is a really strong engine. and with a bit of brains... 250-300 bhp is easily obtainable.

a zetec sounds easier actually. i work on diesel engines at work and are easier to get started if something goes wrong.

ether way i got to have the option of a supercharger or turbo.

pref a supercharger.

i would put one of jonspeeds superchargers on was my original idea. but there are certain problems that i will face.
and seems easier to just do somthing totally differant and unique. yet have lots of power. im aiming for at least 150bhp. and i know my 998cc is not exactly brill i have got that halfway to stage 2 and i recon it has around 50 to 60 bhp. but to be honest i do not know.

i just dont want to copy other people with the honda vtec engines
i have also heard of 2 rover v8's out there too in the front of a mini. now that is something special!

im still getting the escort as a run about while my mini is off the road anyways.

with the wonderful invention of the rs turbo, the head fits basicly straight onto the zetec block. all that needs doing is lowering the compression to about 7.4:1 with calibra turbo pistons and run 20psi with a chip and bigger injectors and the throttle body of the rs 500. st170 gear box and the rs turbo driveshafts fit. this should give you about 250 bhp. the zetec bottom ends are good to about 350 400 bhp...
the down fall with this is that the head is only an 8v. you can use the 2.0 zetec head but studs need to be repositioned but the ports of the inlet and the exhaust match which is a bonus...
anyway.... there not as bad as people make out... Fix Or Repair Daily comes to mind....
but defiantly not a diesel...

ya sound like the zetecs are easier to mod than the a-series.
not to fused about how meny valves it has. pref 16v as more mix in and out quicker.

300-400 in the bottom of an engine. now that is good going even though that sounds a bit over the top.
and as for more than 200 in a mini? would be nice. as for more? i would really start thinking about writing our wills.
i have seen a few videos with minis just under 200bhp. so i recon 150 to 200 would be enough for my mini.
then again more can always be a good thing can't it?

i just found this on ebay too...
electric turbo

might put one on my 998 for the mean time as an experiment.

i meant the bottom end of the engine can handle up too 400 bhp. we are talking about engine conversions here arnt we? the zetec would have to be mounted in the rear of the mini.
electric turbo's are useless

yep an engine convertion. do you think one of these zetec can go in the front?. i have striped the 998 down at the mo (stopping oil leaks with new gaskets
while my dad is doing the flipfront since he is the bodyman at work. (works along side me but hes on nights)

anyways.
i dout them electic turbos do anything anyways. good idea though for a tiny engine. but at high revs the engine is sucking more air in anyway so i bet the thing is soon overrided and does nothing. but reduce airflow

cool that will be dinner sorted then. now for the mini. erm...

i also thought about a hydrogen engine. i know it may sound silly but i really want to get round the petrol prices and save loads of money.
plus i want to be the first to have a 0-emission mini! one that is totally green.

yet still have poo loads of power!

Hydrogen power is not all that good really the prices of the hydrogen is half that of petrol and you will get half as far :techsupport: as for power im not too sure, i like the sound of the zetec personally do that!
