o my god finally a decent reply from mini kel.. sorry to state the obvious but you have tried a puller havent you? because it wont pull of in your hands.. and to say that you can get the flywheel glowing red and it wont damage the oilseal is a load of rubbish and mis guiding to all the weekend mechanics on her..

o, looks like you got it off.. hahaha, have you had the flywheel of previous to this? that to me looks like its spun on the end of the crank so you can say crank is bin fodder.. new engine time

just been reading vizards book and he says to put a fly on, you should heat it up to shrink it on the crank then torque it to 250LBS thats crazy, if you do that theres no wonder some dont come off at all! lol

been mentioned to me leave the puller on over night, soak the thing in copper grease, keep going back to it everything giving it a knock on the end of the puller (depending the type i believe) and then a tighten

does the grove where the keyed washer go actually have to be horizontal when youre pulling the wheel?

I think it does and with No1 at TDC to prevent the primary gear C-washer dropping and risking jamming !!!

although they can take some abuse, dont go too mad with a hammer trying to smash it off.

i have managed to damage a crank doing this, must have put a hairline crack in it, that soon turned into a rumble and by the time i'd done the 50 mile journey home i'd lossed oil pressure, it was knocking quite loudly and the crank was in two peices

Get your fact right before you climb out your pram!

The oil seal sits inside the transfer casing, and the primary gear runs inside the oil seal then the crank runs inside the primary gear, when you take into consideration heat soak through the likes of the crank and the fact that the oil seals does not come into direct contact with the crank or flywheel etc the seal isn't going to get to the temperature that going to damage it.

Oh here's one i did earlier notice the colour of the flywheel, i had to heat it a little bit to get it off

I think thats more likely harmoniced on and not spun on the crank. I don't think it's bin fodder yet as you can buy flywheels with indersized centres in so you can remachine the taper of the crank then have the flywheel machined to match.

The C washer cannot fall out whilst the flywheel is on the crank

yeah the horseshoe clip wouldnt come off, but i thought you might need it facing a certain way to get the flywheel off..
would it be easier if i removed the bolts on the flywheel so its just the flywheel i am pulling? i only want to replace the damn clutch plate so i dont even need the whole assembly off.
The prospect of grinding it off is scaring me now! bye bye crank!
