o my god finally a decent reply from mini kel.. sorry to state the obvious but you have tried a puller havent you? because it wont pull of in your hands.. and to say that you can get the flywheel glowing red and it wont damage the oilseal is a load of rubbish and mis guiding to all the weekend mechanics on her..
What do u mean finally a decent reply,I have had to heat the flywheel till its glowing without damage to the oil seal!!
How u getting on mike49?

still had no luck mate. but yeah, does it make a difference if i unblot the flywheel from the rest of clutch assembly and pull, or should i just remove the lot in one go? Im going to try AGAIN today, and heat it until it sets the street on fire i think!
You can see by the colour of my flywheel how much i heated it don't worry about the oil seal..

I agree with the scaffolding bar over the breaker bar. I have found that you can wind it up in my case until the head snaps of the bolt in the middle of the puller (I don't recomend this much force) at this point I went inside to continue crying in comfort ring my local friendly mini mechanic for advise, while I am on the phone I hear an almighty bang and the fly wheel is free. It seems that this is the way to go, think I have heard Bill Sollis recomend this tactic of apply as much pressure as possible with a good puller and leave it to sort itself out. Seems the thing finaly creeps free. Make sure you protect the body work for potential damage caused by the fly wheel freeing itself.
It is worth noting I am about 16 stone and it was a 6 foot length of scaffolding tube so a good amount of torque is required.
Hope this helps let us know how you get on.
Ben.

yeah, well the seal is quite a way back to do any real damage. but thanks alot for your consistant help turbo pete, much appreciated! Im off outside with a flamethrower for a bit!
Worse case scenario and the seal does get damaged (in my 16 years of playing with minis i have never damaged one with heat whilst taking a flywheel off) it's £3 from your local spares place, once the flywheel is off it's right in front of you and easy to change.

tightened it to the point of bending the puller plate... then with the hope of turbo petes picture, i heated it endlessly until i thought the metal might even melt, then one hit and BANG!
thanks alot people, im very satisfied now
