If you remove the carb outer body, and leave the piston in, the piston should move smoothly up and down, if it snags then it will give the probs you describe.

If it doesnt try the following:

lower your tyre pressure
clean your ashtray
change all your bulbs
fit new seats
watch telly.

Actually I once had exactly the same prob on mrs shiftys mini, painted it pink, problem went away, might be worth a try?

The piston is moving up and down nicely, I thought it could have been that, So cleaned it all up, and rubbed it over with some emmery cloth to smooth it?

I thought maybe an air leak?

The piston should be cleaned with something like a toothbrush!!

You will increase the chances of air leaks by doing this!!
