cool project, i love the mk1 look which is why i'm doing it myself with mine
Do you reckon the pigeon had the trotts leaving a patch that big!
Back in now for the day, having a shower in a bit, never been more sweaty & oily in my life!
Will update with pictures in a bit when I'm all cleaned up, but everything went well!
Seems the occasional stuttering & juddering of the engine was caused by fuel starvation, in a certain position the fuel line was dragging air into the filter causing the starvation, seeing as the pipe was corroded it seemed a good idea to replace that, so that's all been done. Also the fan belt has been tightened which could've caused both loss in battery power (alternator not charging properly) & the temp. gauge to rise sometimes (radiator not spinning properly.) what else.. oh the positive terminal has been changed so that sits in nice and tight now, as opposed to the old one which was lined with bacofoil to keep contact.
So yeah, shower now, pictures in a bit and I'm feeling a whole lot better about everything!
& all thanks to my Dad

+ New terminal fitted.

+ Draining the petrol out of the tank so the new pipe could be fitter, we had a new filter but that fouled up when it was pushed onto the pipe so for the time being the old one is staying in, that wasn't the problem anyway, it was the pipe.

+ And here is the old pipe, which was so close to corroding through.

Didn't get pictures of the other few things we did today, but overall was a good day

Doesn't look like the front flip will be going to plan, at all
Technical issue: I get a knocking from underneath the car sometimes, sounds like it's from the passenger side but I'm not sure of the exact location, and it's not connected with my acceleration or going over bumps in the road etc.. any ideas?

Check your ball joints on your hubs and also check your subframe mounting points.Nah that's the next holiday, leaving on Saturday for that trip.
Doesn't look like the front flip will be going to plan, at allpayday soon but I've got a few things that need money for.. holidays, birthdays & such.. although I will be buying the custom made hinges so it's a start, bit of a shame but I don't mind waiting a few more weeks.

I had this knocking and it turned out that one of my tower bolts rubber mountings had split and decided it was time for early retirement so my subby was knocking against the crossmember in the bulkhead.

Okay mate I'll give those a check when I'm home tomorrow, I've also noticed the steering feels really 'lazy' so if it's not anything you've mentioned could it be the steering rack?
& AndrewJ530, a bloke on here called Matrix made a set for his mini, but he's making another set out of mirrored aluminium so he's selling me the old set.

There are ball joints on either end of the steering rack, if they were worn and had play it'd give you your knocking and your lazy steering.Check your ball joints on your hubs and also check your subframe mounting points.Nah that's the next holiday, leaving on Saturday for that trip.

I'm no expert, I'm just going by what I do know about the Minis assembly.
Get the front end supported on axle stands, grab hold of one of the wheels at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and get a friend to rock teh steering wheel back and forth while you hold the road wheel. From this point you should be able to see the steering rack ball ends aswell if you get your head under there
