i've had no complaints yet but i'm working on the drive as dad's car's in the garage, what's worse is i'm normally only out there on nice days when they want to be in the garden relaxing haha

let me know if you get an ASBO =)

Haha, I am considerate with when I'm making noise! I'll wait till about midday & try to do it when they are out..

Right I've been thinking about getting the front sprayed up & everything sorted, for example the holes cut, lights mounted, numberplate on etc..

1) what is it best to cut the holes with?

2) I'm going to spray the whole thing in grey primer, can I just spray straight on? do I need 2 coats?

I can remember someone using a hacksaw blade one its own to cut the lights etc out (think it was tedmcedd).
I was told to trim the excess lip with a diamond tile disk (without the slots)

A pad saw would be ideal, it's like a hack saw, but the handle doesn't branch over the blade.

I'm going to use one of those and then use a file to finish the holes off. Then again, I've only got my indicators to do .

Have you not thought about waiting until the front is all fitted to the car before doing that? I keep getting tempted but I want it on the car before i start fitting lights and stuff, just to make sure everything is a-ok.

Yeaah.. but thats ages down the line and I need something to do! I'm sure cutting the holes won't make much of a difference if I do it now.. I'll see what tools are in the garage

Grille isn't a problem because there is a line I can work to & the indicators don't seem to hard because it's a small circle so it's easy to judge the center, but on the headlights there isn't a defined line.. ahh, I'll cut out a circle of paper the right diameter and line that up, plan.

Nope not just yet! Dad is in the garage as I speak painting another section of the floor, I'll go out tomorrow in the day if he wants me to and put down a 2nd coat. Then once that's done and the builders have cleared there stuff, I can maneuver everything with Dad into the new garage.

Tomorrow I'll try and split the engine from the subby again, have another go at removing the steering rack.

Didn't take any photos I'm afraid but didn't make much progress.. still stuck at the same hurdle with the steering rack.. so I figured I could disconnect everything else and simply lift the whole 'running gear' off.. so wheels off, discs & calipers off.. tie rod arms off.. & then I couldn't remove the hubs.. guessing I need a ball joint separator because the nuts were just spinning.

Kinda loosing motivation the more and more I pull it apart.. I'm just getting further away from completion, especially with no money it's doesn't feel like a hobby anymore, just a chore.. I'm sure things will pick up soon enough, but for now it's not fun.

Stick with it Image! I know exactly how you're feeling. When I was tearing all the bad bits off Elliot I kept thinking "Oh, my, god, what have I done to this poor car." and when I got to the point where I needed to start putting bits back I lost all motivation.

After a while it came back and now I'm getting on with it I'm finding that putting bits back is far more rewarding than taking bits off. If you just get stuck in as soon as you can I think you'll find it really enjoyable :D.

Don't lose the faith!

If you want to find out things like that, you should start your own project thread, rather than just hijack someone elses.
And it also helps if you STOP WRITING IN CAPITALS

keep going luke, don't stop now!!

:shy:

Making more progress today! was supposed to be going on a pub crawl bike ride with the lads but the weather isn't the best, so instead I'm outside getting more done :D made up a dolly out of a pallet crate the builders have left & some casters my Dad got, not sure how sturdy it is as the casters are quite tall.. but there isn't much weight as it's literally a bare shell.

This afternoons task is removing the rear subby, I've come in for some food whilst the nuts soak in WD40, got a bad feeling that it's going to be a pain in the arse to remove.. we'll see ^_^
