just a quick word of advice before you get too far along with the intercooler install, if you're leaving it there then make sure you duct it well and maybe stick a fan on it sucking air through. I used to have mine in a similar place years ago and it did't help a great deal.

Cheers Nick. It seems like the best/neatest place to install it because of the fibreglass front and lack of mounting places. I was planning on sorting some sort of ducting out for it, maybe try and fabricated something from fibreglass? I'm wondering how much air it will get from the lack of inner wings?

if you can knock something up from fibreglass or ally then it'll definately help. The way i'd duct it would be in from the grill and then out into the arch area, maybe with a fan on the back sucking it out into the arch area.

you can fit those coolers in the front of the engine bay, i'm pretty sure Wil_h has had one there at some point if you have a search on TM for some pics.

It's looking nice though chap :)

Well its been a while since I've updated this thread and I've made a bit of progress recently.
I've:
  • Repositioned the intercooler to allow better airflow (Thanks for the hint turbo nick)
  • Had the engine running with no leaks or problems
  • Started spraying up the rear wheel arches
  • Resprayed the roll cage in a nice bright "rover inca yellow" which looks pretty cool against the red

I'm now going to work on getting my interior back in and I'm recovering and altering my dashboard and top and bottom rails.

Hopefully it'll be on the road in the next month or 2 :-) and not always sat in the garage!

Another quick update.

I had a few free hours on saturday morning so did a bit of work on the mini.

First thing I did was to bolt the roll cage back in, now that it is nice and yellow. I think the contrast with the red works well.

I made the final bracket for the front bumper to sit on as well. Now this just needs to be fibreglassed in solidly.

The final bit I did was to put the rear arches on again. After priming and spraying them they looked pretty good. When I laquered them however they went quite dull and matted. I thought i'd have to rub them all down and start again. However, a mate of mine, Steve, said he thought they'd come up ok with some t-cut and polish, so he set about it, with fantastic results.

Not bad for a rattlecan job! What do you think?!

Hi,

Well the mini is going to be on the road very soon. I've been asked to take someone to their school leavers prom in it on 29th June so this became my deadline!!!

Things that have been completed since my last update are:
  • Replaced the corner of the scuttle and cleaned it up and primed.
  • Cleaned up and primed the A-panels.
  • Made sure that the front end lined up well.
  • prepped the front end ready to be painted
Here is the mini with scuttle and a-panels primed

After the above was completed a friend of mine was kind enough to take the mini to be sprayed using his trailer.

Ready to go and be sprayed

I went to see the mini after i got the call to say it was done and was soooooo pleased with what i saw

So last weekend i got the mini home and a friend and i spent sunday reassembling the front end. It was quite terrifying doing simple tasks as i didn't want to damage it at all. We were sucessful and i'm soooooo pleased with the result. It seems weird seeing it all in one colour after nearly 3 years!!! I love it. Insurance will start on monday, then it's just an MOT and TAX. Can't wait.

Here it is

Well done dude, I been reading this with some interest as I am in the beginnings of a 998 turbo build...
Glad to see you finally made it, a motor to be proud of.

Cheers guys. I'm well chuffed with it. The engine feels lovely too. I took it up the road after getting it off the trailer and it felt really strong off boost, far better than before the rebuild. I can't wait to try it on boost!

Thanks, yeah SVC! Apparently there are 10 of them that are going. It was at mini club I was asked as Chris had got 3 minis together with 3 seats in each. I'm got one seat so it's all good! Should be a bit of fun and a little convoy The poor person in mine could be deaf before they get there in mine!!!

Thought I should post a quick video just to prove that it's on the road and running ok!  Still needs rolling roading.  What do you think!
