haha i had a ride in a series 1 exige when i was 15.....i cacked my pants....didn't help that the driver was a british kart championship driver....i was simply gob smacked, the noise and acceleration was amazing, but the thing that really amazed me was the handling, felt like it could go around any corner at any speed, truly glued! lotus has always been a family thing for us so i've been to many many shows and everytime i see one up close it truly makes me want one more.

ahwell, as the rents keep saying...do well in school...get a good job...drive a lotus to work everyday;)

Didn't realise how rough this beast was when you picked it up, or how much you've already done. Like I said before it just needs some care that it clearly never received from the previous owner and it will be great. Still have lights? And no fires so far? You've done well, keep it up. Just need to get the various Fiesta bits like the boot lamp working now!

by the way I've found that the un-named control box made by Tina may be for the heater and it seems she was always just as careful at cutting the holes in the boxes because they all look like that.

I believe I have lights still, and luckily no fires, though I think the engine might have gone down a cylinder again on the way home last night, I think it might be the tappets that need sorting out.

TVRs destroyed in a fire, I wonder if Tina or Tracey were responsible....

I am now pretty sure that the control box with sockets marked 'top' and 'bottom' (no good if you are holding it upside down of course) and the heat sink screwed to the plastic box is for the heater. It seems the heater output selections are chosen by a stepper motor controlled by this box and that this system can go very wrong, the two useless vents under the middle of the dash will fail first apparently. Exactly how making the sidelights work brought the fans back to life I still can't say, except there may be a clue in that the green LED lighting behind the lightswitch takes power from the main lightswitch supply. If the fan switches (which are also back lit of course) similarly share power with the switch lighting feed that might explain it, although it would be a very strange way to wire something.

So are we saying that given we are talking about TVR, this is the most probable reason? :-

I did handle/move the boxes when I was showing people the 'solid' interior installation, made its persuaded a wire to come out of retirement?!

Still got the boat! About to do some work on it too! Mainly, upgrading the lights, maybe some new wheels as you can probably tell from above, repairing the exhaust manifolds and wrap them at the same time, probably two new lambda sensors and a tune. Also going to get my Nitron shocks rebuilt and fitted at some point soon too!

well that sounds very interesting repairing the mani??

I have still lots to do before the first trip back to the ring next year, namely fit a cage and braces on the Rex.
Also i discovered that my tyres had gone off yesterday.....

Yea, tis a very common fault with the AJP8 engine, the manifolds also crack in the middle, where two branches come together. Luckily they are mild steel, so I can just whip them out and weld them up. Might get someone to TIG them for me though.

Gone off? Like cheese? Sounds like the Rex is going to be a typical 'Ring ragger!
